SoTier Posted July 18 Posted July 18 I looked this guy up on Pro Football Reference, and he's not there. Nobody named Hawkins fit his age, hometown or college. My guess is that he was, at best, a practice squad player who never actually made it to the active roster. I think calling this player "former LA Rams" or "former NFL players" player is a major stretch. 1 1 Quote

Could never find any references online of him, even being in the NFL. I have the feeling it's similar, he may have only been a practice squad member. 1 Quote

For most of them football was a year round thing for them for probably the last 10 to 15 years, and in many cases, they have little other skills. All of a sudden then it's over and don't have millions in the bank either to live off of. I live in Wilmington NC, Think it was maybe around 2012 or so, plus/minus a couple of years, walked into Sam's Club one day and as I'm passing by the Direct TV booth, guys asks me who my favorite team is, and I said Buffalo. I couldn't quite tell if it was a smile or a smirk, and was going to tell me he felt sorry for me as those were the day days of the Bills. Instead he replies that he use to play for the Bills! I looked closer at his name tag and remembered the name. If I recall correctly now as was quite a while ago, he was a DE, originally drafted by Lions, lasted a couple years there, then got picked up by Bills and was active maybe a couple of games, but mostly on PS. Think he lasted 2 seasons here?? He went to high school here in Wilmington, then college was either NC State or ECU, can't recall anymore, but local kid, this was home so that brought him back here. I looked up his lifetime stats, he was in the record books, think he had 3 total tackles, something some day he can show his kids. So for many ex players, next stop selling DTV or something similar, maybe use cars! It's got to be a tough time for them adjusting to life afterwards. Quote
