T master Posted July 13 Posted July 13 Okay I was reading the post of what players we may want to bring back & put on this team to make it better & it got me thinking, If you were the GM & could make up a Bills team from ANY players except or other than those that are in the HOF or from the Super Bowl era teams from the Bills who would those players be ? You can do the entire 53 man roster if you'd like to spend that much time but if you were to line up players on each side of the ball being Offense - Defense & ST's who would those players be ? If you could reach back & choose 1 player for each position to make up that team who would it be ? NO HOF players meaning, No Andre, Jim, Bruce, Thurman, Lofton, & I would actually like to keep it to the Bills teams that never experienced much success from the Bills past only those players that deserved more success but for what ever the reason while in Buffalo never did . We could even not use any of th teams that went to the super bowls because they were very successful . But again not multiple players at any certain spot just 1 player per spot & you can even choose 3/4 D or 4/3 D if you would like & keeping in mind you are the GM & get to use the Bills past players to make up the roster what would be your ultimate Bills line up . This would be a team that would beyond a shadow of a doubt would win it all & may be to the point of unstoppable, the Bills team that with the players that you choose to put in your line up that would hands down bring a Lombardi to Buffalo . The Bills have had a bunch of these kind of players especially through out the drought era that were great players for the team but never had the chance to some even make it to the play offs but were dominate at their position while here & may have went on to be on championship teams else where but never got to feel that with the Bills . So I hope ya'll think this would be a good subject in this slow time of the year & I'm not sure if this has been done before if so sorry but I thought this would at the very least be interesting what those line ups might look like if each of us could do this & I my self will even have to sit down with a pen & paper well maybe a pencil & paper to write in those & possibly change some out that I think of along the way before I actually put down my team . Well there you have it as I said I hope this may take up some football time for you all have at it ... 1 Quote

MJS Posted July 13 Posted July 13 (edited) Ok, so no hall of famers and no players who played for the team from 1991 to 1994? Offense: QB- Josh Allen (Joe Ferguson as backup) WR- Eric Moulds WR- Lee Evans Slot WR- Stefon Diggs RB- Fred Jackson TE- Dawson Knox LT- Dion Dawkins LG- Billy Shaw C- Eric Wood RG- Ruben Brown RT- Spencer Brown Defense: DE- Mario Williams DE- Aaron Schobel DT- Kyle Williams DT- Fred Smerlas MLB- Mike Stratton OLB- Matt Milano CB- Butch Byrd CB- Charles Romes Slot Corner- Taron Johnson FS- George Saimes SS- Jordan Poyer Specialists: Kicker- Rian Lindell Punter- Brian Moorman KR/PR- Terrance McGee Edited July 13 by MJS 5 2 2 Quote
colin Posted July 13 Posted July 13 i figure we have a 53 man roster, have a depth chart. qb: allen, kelly RB OJ, Thurman, Lynch/Cook (we could have 9 RBs on this team, we've had so many) WR Reed, Moulds, Diggs, TO, price, Beebee/shakir/steve johnson -- would fight for the last roster spot(s) TE Kinkaid (i assume in this magic team he's healthy), metz, remeirsma OT ballard, wolford, peters dawkins brown (five might be too many, but holy shoot lock at that depth of talent) IOL hull, wood, rube brown, and i legit can't decide on the rest, richie incognito obviously no fullback would ever see the field. allen with OJ behind that line with healthy kinkaid at TE and prime moulds, reed, and TO is good for 6 tubs a game. p moorman k honestly not sure, maybe christie ST tasker (duh) CB gilmore, clemmens, winfield, white, benford, prime taron S whitner, bishop, hyde, poy, jarus byrd would have some roster battle, byrd might just flip down to being a sick big nickel corner going 3-4 on D ILB This is honestly a joke. Cowart and TKO spikes got hurt too early in their bills careers, but at their peak they were actual cyborgs. I presume biscuit would be an OLB edge type backer today, or flex. feltcher, conlan, and speilman would compete for the rest. if we could stash the guys who didn't make it as special teamers, kick/punt returns would fair catch everything. OLB not sure if biscuit goes here or ILB, maybe a total joker position on d. aaron schoble, bryce paup, von miller (imagine him as a prime guy on this team?), and it kinda gets tricky on who will be a DE and who will be an edge, especially if c bennet can slide in there. prime jerry houghs likely slides in and brings some juice DT pat willians, ted washington, prime marcel dareous, sam adams. dexter laurence got traded for the 10th overall pick after his 8th season and he is not close to as good as anyone of these 4. DE for crying out loud. Bruce who could be flexed to edge i suppose (front 5 in the redzone vs heavy sets would be Bruce, Pat, washington, marcel, von miller, with TKO and cowart in the middle? they should line up for the FG on 1st down). Marcellous Wiley, phil hansen, super mario williams. i know im a homer, but i legit don't think another team's all time best of group could match this. 4 wide on O with OJ in the back, prime moulds, reed, TO and Diggs at WR? with allen qbing? the talent on D is even more shocking IMO. i remember our like 98-2000 team. the back ups on the 3 man line included Marcellous wiley and pat williams (behind bruce and ted). two back ups out of a 3 man line who had careers with multiple all pros. both of those guys would be 3/4 at their positions on the above dream team. i totally ignored the no hall of famers thing. take today's team, and mix in prime moulds, TO (he's not in yet, right?), diggs, steph gilmore, antoine winfield, prime TKO and Cowart, prime von miller, is peters in yet? if not take him. at RB, is lynch in the hall? if not take him, fast freddy, maybe travis henry, same special teamers above, same DL except the ones in the hall. still good! Kirby Jackson Posted July 13 Posted July 13 So if I understand this, no HOFers, no one from the Super Bowl era, no one from those AFL Championship teams and no one from this present era? Is that correct? Quote

I’m only counting guys I’ve seen: QB- Allen (easiest one) RB - McCoy (hardest one) TE - Kincaid WR - Moulds WR - Diggs Slot - Stevie Johnson LT - Peters LG - Ruben Brown C - Wood RG - Incognito (although primarily LG) RT - Spencer Brown DE - Mario Williams DE - Schobel DT - Washington DT - Kyle Williams OLB - Takeo ILB - Cowart OLB - Milano CB - Winfield CB - Tre White S - Poyer S - Hyde P: Moorman K: Lindell returner: McGee just missed the cut: Clements, Fletcher, about 6 different RBs, Pat Williams, Dawkins, Byrd, and Paup Edited July 13 by Kirby Jackson 2 Quote
MJS Posted July 13 Posted July 13 I've seen a couple choose Kincaid at TE. I steered away from him because of the constant injuries and I don't feel he has ever really reached his high potential. Hopefully, this is the year! I went with Knox because he does everything and has been pretty durable. The Bills don't have a great history at TE, though. The cupboard is pretty bare. Quote

In terms of career, he may even be a touch ahead of those guys. He did win DPOY I think. Edited July 13 by Kirby Jackson Quote

I'm not putting TO there because he spent one season at the end of his career with the Bills, for instance. Gilmore had two really excellent years (2018 and 2019), but those were with the Patriots. 32 minutes ago, DrDawkinstein said: CB too, no one has even rostered Nate Clements or Steph Gilmore yet. I always waffle on are these guys at their ceiling? Average? Injury risks? I think a fun angle would be random year in their career. If you pick moulds you could get year 1 or year 7- who knows? Pick a guy with a career altering injury? Could be pre or post. Basically roll a ten (or however many sided) die for each player and you could get Thurman the Miami years or Super Bowl years. would be a fun exercise in ceilings vs floors Quote
