BillsFan619 Posted July 11 Posted July 11 (edited) Glad we extended him. Hope he has another great year. Let James cook! He was also ranked by execs, coaches and scouts as a top 10 RB. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/49145576/ranking-nfl-top-10-running-backs-2026-execs-coaches-scouts Edited July 11 by BillsFan619 7 3 Quote
Kirby Jackson Posted July 11 Posted July 11 (edited) Wait a minute, teams loaded the box because the Bills WRs were trash and no one could get down the field?!? 🤯🤯 Think about how insane this is and how bad those WRs actually were. The Bills have Josh Allen, the most talented and dangerous player in the game as their QB. Teams still said, “eff it” and loaded the box because they knew how bad the Bills were on the perimeter. Awesome year from Cook, the OL and Kromer. We shouldn’t however believe that is sustainable at the same level. Edited July 11 by Kirby Jackson 21 1 6 1 2 Quote

Way to go on turning a thread about the great year James Cook had into an “our wide receiver group was bad” thread so quickly. We didn’t have enough of those types of threads already. 🤣😃🤣 Edited July 11 by BillsFan619 4 5 5 Quote
Mr. WEO Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Compare this to OJ, who from 1977 on faced a lot of light boxes. 1 1 1 Quote

H2o Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Not only were they stacking the box trying to stop Cook, they were also stacking the box to keep Allen contained as well. I'm glad we have him and hope he continues to thrive here. 4 2 Quote

I don’t know because I haven’t looked but I’d bet that Pacheco and Chase Brown aren’t the 2 guys ahead of the Bills in loaded boxes. You load the box against Bryce Young and JJ McCarthy not Josh Allen. 5 1 Quote
Buffalo716 Posted July 11 Posted July 11 (edited) Light Front Carry % 34% 6.0ypc ... Base front carry 49.8% .... Stacked front 16.2% 4.0 ypc ...... Under center 80.6% 5.5 ypc .... Shotgun 19.4% 4.2 ypc I don't know where he got his light box numbers but they are definitely different than every advanced metric I've seen and have.. according to all the advanced metrics and what I have James cook faced a light front box 34% of the time with his carries Which was a higher of a rate than he is saying... He did face a normal base box .. seven in box at a very high rate.. 49.8% He did face a stacked front at a top five rate in the NFL last year at 16.2% His data is definitely different than every single person's advanced metrics I've seen for light box % He definitely faced a light box way more than 11% of his runs.. other people carry these advanced metrics And you can pay for them too And I have the same exact stuff rate as him.. James Cook had a light box more than 11%.. 6 7 and 8 in the box is how you determine stacked base or light He didn't run on a base or a stacked box 89% The league plays way too much nickel for that number to work out 66% of your runs against a stacked or a base box is a lot especially in today's League.. 89% is unheard of Edited July 11 by Buffalo716 3 Quote

Besides you being a great poster, that’s why my response was light hearted. 😃 While I still hope James Cook has a great year, hopefully, we’ll see some changes to the offense this upcoming season. In fairness Josh's legs is part of why teams tend to commit that extra guy into the box, but yes... in general terms your point is right. We don't need stats. Opposing players have said again and again in recent years that they are willing to dare the Bills to beat them deep and outside. They do not rate our wideouts at all. 4 5 Quote

Good thoughts, bro! I think Cook is exceptional. He has been the best playmaker since Diggs. Last year when people didn’t want to give him $12M I wanted to lose my mind. The Bills lack stars. Cook is one. Ray Davis is fine. He’s not Cook. I believe Kromer is a huge loss. I think the running game will still be really good. It could be as good as last year but not if the boxes are that full. They shouldn’t be. They were outstanding last year despite the challenges. The game at Carolina is as good as I have seen for a running game. Edited July 11 by Kirby Jackson 2 3 Quote
colin Posted July 11 Posted July 11 If Cook with this line faced the same boxes as what singleterry saw he'd get 1500+ yards rushing on 225 carries. My hope is he touches the ball about 20% less, a higher percent of his touches are catches, and he produces about the same overall. And actual balanced bills offense would be a scary sight. 2 Quote

DJ Moore is a nice first step to finding capable outside WR's and I like Bell in the draft, not sure if Bell will have a major impact year one but it could be some nice depth short term and a good developmental piece longer term. However, even with the addition of Moore I think the Bills are going to be in the market for a WR come the trade deadline. Right now the Bills have Moore as an outside WR1 (decent) and a good slot in Shakir. The WR is currently a battle between Keon/Palmer/Bell that's not exactly inspiring. I could easily see the Bills making an Amari Cooper type deal to get more pop at WR. 1 1 Quote

Mat68 Posted July 12 Posted July 12 The also ran the ball the most in the NFL. Teams get scouting reports. They get analytics. They ran more often on first down. Where in heavy personnel and ran the ball. Teams loaded the box. If Buffalo passed more, or started in spread more teams would not load the box. Cook can run routes. That was why he was drafted in the second rd. I think he lined up more at Wr at Ga in run first offense than in the NFL with Josh Allen. This is my hope for Brady as HC. Open up the offense. Be in the top 10 in pass rate on first down. With a good Oline and top TE trio. Teams have to respect it. Exploit it. With the league moving to heavy sets, and running game going the opposite creates advantages to exploit. They have the player packages to move in and out of spread and heavy. 1 1 Quote

And we ran Cook a lot. And teams feared Josh's running. So why not load the box? 1 Quote

Give him TC, and he’ll get in sync with Josh. 1 Quote
