Did Payton do something to you personally that you have such harsh feelings towards him? For one thing, he was suspended from coaching for a year for presiding over a bounty scandal that featured payments to players for purposefully injuring opponents. He's always had a "smartest guy in the room" egomaniac sort of vibe to him. I concede that he's a good coach, but that doesn't mean he's a particularly decent guy. That was fun to watch. im gonna keep banging that same drum, and will be elated if our new coaching staff can improve it, but our special teams were just awful for the last 2 or 3 seasons. just absolutely game losing trash. that and the breakdown of the d in the playoffs are the biggest black marks on mcd to me. 1 Quote

(But there has been absolutely nothing interesting to discuss on here this summer-so your comment caught my eye) I agree that Payton comes off as somewhat arrogant. But the media sure thinks he is great coach. They always give him props. The bounty scandal was a lot of nothingness IMO. It was more crazy Greg Williams anyways. And football used to be violent. Now, not so much anymore. Is Payton a decent guy or not? I would have to ask the guys who played for him. I know my girlfriend doesn't like him. McDermott always seemed like a decent guy. But as a head coach, he was just Ok. He went with too many veterans that he was overly comfortable with. And was too stubborn to change his defensive schemes when they were figured out. 1 Quote

I wouldn't go that far. We had an All Pro returner last year. But the coverage teams in big moments is where they were trash. How many times have we seen long returns at the end of the game? Too many, honestly. It seemed like they would be fine, and then have an absolutely terrible game where they just didnt gameplan at all on ST. Looking forward to a new HC and ST coach this year. Quote

FWIW. That's pretty sketchy. Sounds a little like Urban Meyer. Never thought of Payton as a ladies man type of guy. He looks like one of those guys who had a Dad body when they were a teenager, and looks like he never lifted a weight in his life. LOL 1 Quote
