dpberr Posted July 8 Posted July 8 To OP's point, Buffalo has the third most players on the list with 13 behind Washington and Miami. I think some teams sign more minimum salary vets than others do to fill out a roster. Prater, Poyer, Phillips, and Davis were added because of injury or other issues. Five of the 13 were on vet minimum deals to begin with. The available free agents across the NFL are *OLD*. It's certainly 30+ years of age. The average roster in the NFL is 26 years of age. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/available/_/year/2026 Quote

I was still filled with the “next year!” smoke. I was very very wrong. I think. I’m not sure what would’ve happened at that time if McDermott and his whole crew gets canned. Pre MVP Josh, Diggs about to lose his mind. I dunno. I’m guessing Terry would’ve kept Beane. Who does he hire or promote? What do you think the firing/hiring process would have looked like following 13 seconds? Not how it would’ve drawn out.. just who stays, who gets hired as HC? Quote

Beane would have 100% been safe after 13 seconds and Daboll probably gets promoted to HC. 1 1 Quote

It's not so much that the McDermott 13 are free agents now... it's that they were on the Bills roster last year. Matt Milano (9 seasons) Tre’Davious White (8 seasons) Taron Johnson (8 seasons) Jordan Poyer (8 seasons) AJ Epenesa (6 seasons) Cam Lewis (6 seasons) Jordan Phillips (6 seasons) DaQuan Jones (4 seasons) Baylon Spector (4 seasons) Dane Jackson (5 seasons) Shaq Lawson (5 seasons) Taylor Rapp (3 seasons) Shaq Thompson (3 seasons: 2 years in Carolina, 1 in Buffalo) McDermott over-relied on guys who knew the system. "The McDermott 13" sounds like it should stick. Hilarious! A band of misfit, grizzled, dudes on crutches, wearing aged Bills clothing from the last 10 years. 1 Quote
OldTimer1960 Posted July 8 Posted July 8 I’ll speculate that AJ Epenesa will have the best season of ex-Bills. 2 Quote

Folks will scoff at that due to how the Giants stint worked out, but Giants never had Josh and worst case, we still didnt win a Super Bowl during that time, and would just be exactly where we are now. I also think Dabs would've managed Diggs better and Diggs would've been a better solider and played out his contract in Buffalo since he liked Dab's philosophy. Diggs meltdown happened due to McD. That also drastically changes our cap situation (for the better) over the last 2 years. But, that's all fantasy now. All of these guys (McD, hypothetical Daboll, and Brady) should get 4-5 years with Josh MAX. If they dont win or get to a SB, then rotate out to the next guy. With the way it currently stands, if Brady gets 4-5 years and cant get it done, we probably only have 1 more window after Brady with Josh's playing time. 1 1 Quote

I highly doubt that Pegula will be patient enough to give Brady more than 2 years… MAYBE if he loses in the Super Bowl. 2 Quote

Sorry, I dont see any evidence for that statement. And especially with leaving Beane in control. Beane/Brady have at least 3 years, but probably no more than 5 if they dont get it done. 1 Quote
