This happens to be a subject at which I am rather well versed. My assignment was to investigate and handle domestic violence cases.

 

Men are far less likely than women to report domestic violence, usually because they are too embarrassed to do so. That said, the fact is that women are also often too embarrassed to file reports. I probably had more than 100 male to female domestic violence cases for every one called in by a male against a female.

 

I had a female partner who was beautiful. The few males who claimed to be (or actually were) victims wanted to talk to her. I was surprised initially by the fact that the women usually felt more comfortable talking to me. I suspect that they felt embarrassed telling their story to another woman.

 

I don't doubt that some men who were victims didn't report these incidents. In fact, I'm sure of it. That said, there is ZERO question that there are more female victims than male victims. The numbers are not even remotely close and this is beyond dispute.

That’s got to be hard. I used to work with a guy who was a child psychologist before changing careers. The stuff he would see and hear took its toll on him. It was dark and it wore him down. He had to take care of himself after a while.

 

Thank you for what you did, because somebody has to do it.

That's a movie I haven't seen in a long time.  Might have to look that up again.

I have several retired Bills and Sabres jerseys. Can rarely go wrong wearing them. Don’t have to worry much about police charges (unless it’s OJ !) …or flipping teams.

Actually, those years were my favorite. Sorry if it sounds like I'm bragging but we came up with some innovative ideas and did manage to actually help some people. The Chief of the borough took credit for what we did and I totally didn't care. I did well in the end because they gave me a (pensionable) promotion. 

 

I can relate to your friend. The worst things I saw were when I worked in the worst places one could imagine. As a psychologist, I'm sure that he knows that he must compartmentalize the horrors he witnessed or he will be forever haunted by them.

 

I have nightmares at least 5 nights per week. Sometimes more than one in a night. The good news is that they are not traumatic. I usually forgot equipment, or I'm getting written up for something stupid. It never bothers me, whereas  I just accept it as a sort of alt life lol. I'm one of the lucky ones. A friend of mine has horror dreams of satan or Hitler chasing him, etc.
