God bless you and your families. I was so proud in Hamburg last year, the town honored my father and Uncle Les for their service during the Korean War. They hung banners in the town. I was so proud of my father that day. He still reminisces his days in the service so long ago. My dad turns 96 in August, and reminds me how that generation believed service to their country was their honor and priveledge. Every one of my uncles and dad were volunteers. We went to watch a bit of the Peachtree Roadrace this morning, an annual July 4th 10k in Atlanta. There was a radio station set up next to our viewing spot. A guy all decked out in his 4th of July finest red, white and blue with a microphone was on top of a truck throwing out tee shirts and pushing the free Corona Premium beer in the tent next to him. I must say I was curious to check out the free beer stand (I’m only human) but thought 7am might be a bit too early. That is usually just tailgate behavior! By 7:30am a runner goes by and I see him toss a Michelob Ultra can into the trash as he runs by. The normal rules don’t apply today, apparently. It’s almost like an airport bar, where there are no rules and no funny looks. @HOUSE is wise and looks after us when we need it most. 🍺 Happy (and safe!) Fourth to all of you! . Still a great American, and he'll tell you that his time in the Army was a critical turning point in his life, instilling the discipline and understanding of his fellow Americans from all regions and walks of life that helped make him a success when he came back home. I do want to point out that there was a time when our country's involvement in foreign conflicts was unquestionably justified from the standpoint of morals, ethics, and humanity... even if it came after pragmatics. I look forward to the day that our country returns to involving themselves only in conflicts which benefit all of humanity... and which are based on compelling reasons beyond ego and self-interest. What "American Exceptionalism" means to me is that we set a standard and an example for how great civilizations treat their world neighbors and that we act based on virtues, ideals, and morals. Happy 4th my Brothers and Sisters. I am truly glad to be an American and count this and my other blessings each and every day. As I just revealed above, I'm far from an indiscriminate, blind flag waver and also, for good reason I'm not xenophobic, jingoistic, overly-nationalistic, or culturally prejudiced BUT... maybe it's just me but it seems like the beer being given away for free should be an American brand and not Corona???
