Mr Info Posted July 2 Posted July 2 We do not require a big truck (R1T) or SUV(R1S) so I placed a reservation in 2024 for an R2 and recently received an email that my expected order date is Dec ‘26-Feb ‘27 but that is based on my preferences as I am waiting for the new chipset and LIDAR sensor. I also purchased some stock over the past year and today they just raised their 2026 delivery output after 2nd quarter results. They also recently announced that the R2 is composed of 25% recycled or biomass materials. Nice to see responsible manufacturing though I am more concerned with reliability. Since my order date is out a bit, this allows more time for evaluation of R2 reliability but early reviews have been good. There is an Rivian R2 Forum in the RivianForums app if you are interested. I will schedule a test drive in a few months and get an up close look at some color options at the dealer. They continue to release more exterior and interior colors. Quote
Mr Info Posted July 2 Author Posted July 2 For those unaware, Rivian is an EV company with their current manufacturing facility in Normal, IL. They are building another plant in Stanton Springs, GA. I purchased one of the initial Tesla Model Ys about 7-8 yrs ago. I sold it about 2 years later for more than I bought it. It was the perfect time to sell and I did. The Model Y became my favorite car. One time, on an empty highway, I had that car hit 128 mph. Cheap thrills because an officer did not see me. I will not purchase an ICE vehicle again. In the 2 years I had that vehicle, the only maintenance that occurred was when I changed the windshield washer fluid. i drove it (from VA) to a couple of Bills games and other east coast spots and encountered no issues charging it. It’s years later and charging will be more available. We live in a good spot for EVs as there are a few free charging spots close by and I would drive there, walk home, and return in 2-3 hrs and pick it up fully charged. Lots of free miles driving.
