I used to use StubHub without any issue.

Within the last couple years, I've had 5 transactions where I purchased tickets only to never get them, or get very different (worse) tickets than I purchased.  For the Bills, I've decided only to purchase through Ticketmaster moving forward.  More expensive, yes, but it doesn't waste my time.

This may or may not be the place for this. In lieu of what is happening with the World Cup tickets, I wanted to share my story. Since its peak offseason I figured I’d open Pandora’s Box.

So, I sold my tickets to the Chiefs game last year. A friend invited me to sit with her. I had an extra ticket and so did she, so we decided instead of finding 2 people at the 11th hour, I would just sell mine.

I listed them late (a day or 2 before the game). I think I asked $1000 for the pair or something like that. My cut was like $896 so whatever that works out to. Before I left for the stadium the morning of the game, I switched to use the “auto upload” feature for the tickets. I figured if they sold, I wouldn’t be around to transmit the tickets. My plan was to just adjust pricing if needed.

Sure enough they sold at the asking price.  I go to the game, everything is fine. The next day, I’m driving home from somewhere and get a push notification from AMEX. My card gets charged $896!! That can’t be right, that’s what I am owed, not the other way around.

I call StubHub and am on the phone for hours. They said that I never sent the tickets and the person showed up. They refunded that person and charged me. I’m furious.

The next day, I called my rep and asked if he could email me the screenshot of when, and where, I transferred the tickets to. He sent it over, and sure enough, it was sent to StubHub that morning. They apparently never loaded them on. They never transferred them to that person. They then charged me for it.

Over the next few months, I made dozens of calls to StubHub. I provided the documentation straight from the Ticketmaster system at the Bills. After a few months, I got a letter more or less saying, “too bad.” Now I’m even more furious, and helpless. As many of you can probably tell, I’m not quick to let things go. 😂😂

I have a bunch of friends still in ticketing. My one buddy sent me this attorney that does nothing but sue StubHub. I sent him everything. He has a multi-million dollar class action suit with them now. This World Cup situation will be a nightmare but this is independent of that.

Last night, I received an email from him, that I am getting my money back, the penalty and interest. I don’t owe the attorney a dime. StubHub acknowledged fault in this case and hundreds of others. I’m so mad that it came to this but feel vindicated.

Needless to say, I will never use StubHub again. They didn’t even really ever argue that I was wrong. They pretty much said, “too bad” until this attorney got on it. I am sure that I’m not alone in this but has anyone else ever had a terrible experience with them (or any other ticketing platforms)?

I never had anything that bad happen. But I did buy parking for an event from StubHub that was promised to be within a mile of the venue that turned out to be 3 miles. What's worse I was charged double of what it would have cost if I had bought my own parking from ParkWhiz or SpotHero. Lesson learned.

I drove out to Buffalo with my family for the Bills/Bucs this year. We got there Saturday and my SIL was supposed to be getting all of our tickets from a local friend, there were 8 of us total. By Sat night, she had 4 tickets & her friend was flaky on getting the other 4. Early Sunday morning, I didn't want to risk not getting any, so I bought 4 very overpriced seats on stubhub. 20 minutes later, I get a text from my SIL that she now has 8 tickets in the 100 level & they're free, somebody's company seats...

So I go back on stubhub to try & cancel, no go. I had to list them for sale, and their default price was lower than I bought them for 20 minutes earlier, plus fees. They sold, but it cost me around $400 to own the tickets for less than an hour.

@Kirby Jackson that sounds awful; glad you finally got your money back. I haven’t had a negative experience with SH but when I’ve sold through them if the tickets haven’t been purchased within a few days of the event I pull them.

Yea mixed experiences. I have used StubHub without issue a couple of times in respect of the NFL London games. But I have had bad concert ticket experiences with them and their customer services are, as @Kirby Jackson says, awful. I played slightly sneaky with them and sent them a letter on letterhead paper from the Deputy Prime Minister's office and they backed down straight away.

When Sergio Enrique Alvarado Montalvo paid $1,700 (£1,300) on StubHub to surprise his father with World Cup tickets, he envisioned an unforgettable Father's Day watching Lionel Messi play. Instead, after flying his parents from Mexico to Dallas for the Argentina v Austria match and spending nearly $6,000 (£4,600) on travel and hotels, the family was left stranded outside the stadium gates. Just one day before they were set to travel to Dallas, StubHub abruptly notified Montalvo that the seller could not deliver the tickets, refusing to provide comparable replacements due to soaring prices.

I usually use Ticketmaster and don't use stubhub often .  The only issue I ever had with stubhub was last year I used it to buy tickets to a UNC basketball game.  I always get aisle seats to any event - and bought a pair that were listed as aisle.  It wasn't until I got to the game that I noticed they actually were not aisle.  I called them after and they initially tried to say I would have had to notify them prior for them to do anything, but I persisted and they ended up giving me a voucher for a portion of the price of the tickets - which was better than nothing.

The attorney that did my case settled 138 of 159 cases so far (including mine). The rest were in mediation yesterday and they were much bigger clients. Those were actual resellers with lots to settle. He’s trying to hire a team of law students to work on the cases according to LinkedIn.

He currently has over 130 World Cup clients that is a separate case. Those are easy “wins.” Stubhub is a mess.

I've both bought and sold World Cup tickets on StubHub. To say it's been a cluster f_ck would be an understatement. Sine of the stuff that's happened to me is probably lawsuit worthy. Can you please give me the contact of the lawyer you used

Occasionally when these things happen to me, I fight it out of principle.  I can afford the loss, but it’s crap a company can be so dismissive.  I’m glad you shared as another poster has a similar experience, at least they can PM you and get the contact of that attorney.  You were astute to take those screenshots shots and prove it.  My wife is great at thinking someone can always scam her.  She was born and raised in China, so she’s used attempts to scam her in China.

Just go the event, tell them you’re the Architect, and you can get in just about anywhere. As long as you look and act even a tad authoritatively it’s amazing how many doors that opens. (Somewhat kidding)

@Kirby Jackson

I would LOVE to know the lawyers name!!!  THAT was a life saver. - WHOOPS - I see 6 hours ago you posted the info.  Props man!!

I have had nothing but positive experiences with Stub Hub.  I am a HUGE Flyers fan and have gone to several stadiums to watch them.  All stub hub - all digital and most importantly as was previously mentioned - INSTANT download.

I purchased tickets to the Aaron Rodgers injury game at MetLife. StubHub sent the tickets and when they were scanned at the gate they were rejected. The person let us in anyway. In the middle of the 1st quarter another group shows up with the same tickets as us. They showed me their phone the seats were identical. They left and never came back. We then watched the Bills hand the game to the Jets

Had an issue with SeatGeek last summer...bought tickets in the afternoon for a concert that night scheduled for 8:00pm.  At around 6:30, the tickets had not arrived, so I called SeatGeek and they cancelled the transaction and gave me a decent discount for my next purchase.  The original ticket holder sent me the tickets at 8:03pm and I was not charged.

I always use Seat Geek. Never had an issue. They are great.

Lol. As an architect, I can tell you that this isn’t the case. I wish. Maybe I don’t act authoritative enough…
