Favorite players from over the years?

I missed the AFL Championship teams but I did catch the end of Butch Byrd and Mike Stratton's careers and they were among my earliest favorite players as a 7 year old kid.

A lot of the players already mentioned are on the list too but for me it's been almost 60 years of following this team.

Even before the 17 year playoff drought there were many lean years in the Bills history.

From 1967 until 1979, the Bills only made the playoffs once. So the beginning of my love for the Bills coincided with many very sad seasons.

However, being a kid I had many favorite players from the 1967-79 teams that I cheered for. Just to add some new names (besides Byrd and Stratton, and of course OJ) to the discussion and to acknowledge the first dark age of Bills football...

  • Haven Moses WR
  • Paul Costa TE
  • James Harris QB
  • Marlin Briscoe WR
  • Jim Braxton FB
  • JD Hill WR
  • Al Cowlings DE (and White Bronco)
  • Tony Greene DB
  • Dwight "Ike" Harrison WR then DB
  • Dave Washington TE then LB
  • Bobby Chandler WR
  • The Electric Company (The OJ era O-line)
  • Steve Freeman S
  • Roland Hooks RB
  • Mike Kadish DE
  • Earl Edwards DE
  • Sherman White DE
  • Ben Williams DE
  • Charles Romes CB
  • Curtis Brown RB
  • Shane Nelson LB
  • Frank Lewis WR
  • Lou Piccone WR
  • Lucious Sanford LB
  • Ken Jones OT
  • Joe Devlin OT

All of these guys were excellent football players who had careers they can be proud of, but who played on bad football teams and therefore, will be remembered by few as time marches on.

JK12 was the reason I became a Bills fan…but there were so many other players on those teams I loved rooting for as well. It’s always funny to me that a guy like Tim Tindale who was here for a cup of coffee, still sticks in my brain all these years later. His shining moment was galloping into the EZ against Miami in the ‘95 playoffs, a 44 yard run that was as awesome to watch happen as it was unexpected.

Or Marvcus Patton, a LB with the coolest name to say and capable of big plays anytime.

Tops in my book tho after Kelly (and now Allen obviously), remains Steve Tasker. Loved seeing him play WR as well.

Always a fun topic OP!

Millennial as well. My all time favorite player was Terrence McGee. Had he been on the Cowboys, he would’ve been a household name. Very good corner and elite return man. The tandem of McGee on KR and Roscoe Parrish returning punts was crazy.

Forget the fact that he didn’t score. This is one of the sickest returns I’ve ever seen. I know every Bills fan has seen it, but this is what I show other fans if they don’t know.

That has to be one of the craziest plays ever and I was there to see it live. Just heartbreaking because its like he ran out of gas and tripped just short of the EZ.

There are so many players but I am going to stick with players that gave their all to the Bills but never tasted true success while with the team & should have just because of the type of players & people that they are !

To start 1 of my all time favorites is Kyle for sure & on that side of the ball match him up with Schobel, Bills lifers that could make a difference today & deserve to taste success of a winning team .

In the offensive side of the ball I would love to see Eric moulds & Jerry Butler with Josh as their QB because neither of them got to experience success while they were here but both could make a huge difference for Josh & this team .

And just for a cherry on top put Shady in the back field too . I know Shady was here when Josh started but to put him behind this O line & if Shady was in the shape he was when he got here HELLO !!

I grew up loving Eric Moulds. He was the first player that I considered my favorite player.

Travis Henry and Fred Jackson at RB. Terrance McGee. Kyle Williams.

Loved Tre White, Micah Hyde, and Jordan Poyer.
