Terrible. Guy was an amazing athlete in his day. This has to be the worst for him considering all he could do physically before and having to just watch it wither away. Way too young for this.

Sad. Awful disease. I graduated HS with someone who had a family history and was gone within a year of being diagnosed themselves. Heartbreaking.

Really awful.

I think repeated head injuries may be a risk factor for ALS. I wonder if that played a role here? Scary stuff.

It's well known that there's an increased risk in professional athletes in contact sports and combat veterans.

I had a cousin who died of ALS in 2014 (the Ice Bucket Challenge year).

It was then that I found out about the number of athletes and combat veterans that have been diagnosed with the disease.

I can't think of anything worse.  My best goes out to him.

Very sad news. I lost a friend to this at 52. He was diagnosed at 48.  Getting ALS at any age is terrible, but at 39 is just way too young.  My prayers go out to Chris Johnson and his family.

A close friend has had this for 5 years. He is fighting it in ways I just would not be capable of.  It’s heartbreaking but inspiring to watch his faith lead his fight to keep going. Huge Bills fan and still a season ticket holder. If you ever see a Sprinter van all wrapped in Bills’ Mafia graphics, that’s him!
