If you weren't thrilled about the Brady hire as HC do you feel any better about it now?

Well it was 5 months ago yesterday he was announced as HC.

 

 

When he got hired I'll admit my reaction was very negative.  I think off the emotion of the Broncos loss, the messy press conference over the firing of McDermott, and my feeling was at the time the Bills didn't really interview a lot of candidates.  

 

 

While I'm still not sold about the hire my feeling months removed from it all is that I'm willing to roll with him as HC.

Absolutely.

 

I was underwhelmed, even though I like Joe Brady.

 

It turned pretty quickly for me though and I’m now excited to see what can happen, especially with the great coaches he hired.

I think where Brady won me over was the hiring of the coaching staff.

 

Hired experienced offensive and special teams coordinators, and one of the most exciting young DCs in Leonhard.

 

If Leonhard hits and can fix the defence, this team will have a great chance to win a Super Bowl

I think I'm more over it then most people who bring up the subject everyday.. I just respond occasionally I'm not starting threads about how I feel like we made a terrible mistake

 

That's how I feel.. I could go a year without mentioning him but I read about him a lot here

 

I'm honestly completely over it and ready for the new season where I think a heavy majority of the people on this board are not over it and actually really nervous about what happens if we don't get over the hump and it's projected as nervous confidence

 

People act like we haven't had good coaching staff here before .. like we were ran by a circus

Respectfully, I wasn't trying to bring up a McDermott discussion from my comment.

We have had a good coaching staff for the last 9 years.. and I've said we needed a change 

 

There's people who cry about how bad he was every day.. you can call me out for defending him from people trashing him as a human being... we had people calling him a Napoleonic control freak and tons of crazy stuff and I have defended him as a human first... And secondly as a coach

What does playing devil’s advocate to point out the parallel have to do with how you feel about Joe Brady being named coach now vs 5 months ago, which is the thread topic at hand? It wasn’t a McD thread until you made it one.

Brady's hires have won me over too.

 

The rubber hasn't hit the road yet but I really like not only Leon Hard, Carmichael, and Fox but also Jay Valai, Drew Terrell and Pat Meyer.

Given the Bills overall success and offensive production, I came around to accept the idea of Brady before the hire was made. Seeing who he was able to recruit for his staff was both reassuring and exciting. Carmichael and Fox have been around and have had success, so seeing them come aboard was legitimizing. Seeing the young up and coming talent he was able to bring in with Leonhard and the assistants also suggests that he is viewed well among ascending coaches. Fingers crossed.

We're all going to have to "roll with him" for the near future.  Personally, I don't think he's NFL Head Coach material based on his track record in Carolina and resume in Buffalo.  Didn't he wander to the Bills as the QB coach after being fired by the Panthers?  What can be said about a QB coach for Josh Allen?  Did he show him how to escape the rush by running around in the backfield and throwing missiles to receivers down field?  When he moved on to Offensive Coordinator were those types of scrambles part of his game-plan?  Who else on last year's staff could even be considered as a HC?  

 

Joe was lucky to get the job, and the Bills will be lucky to win 9 games!

I feel the exact same as I did then.  I wanted Kubiak, but I’m thinking now he was locked into the Raiders from the beginning. 
 

I think we will overall be fine, but I do see us taking a step back.  I think Brady being new will count for at least one bad coaching decision loss and the transition defense will also cost us a game or two.   
 

Nothing against either coach, but I think it’s only natural for there to be some growing pains.  I also don’t like Leonard’s comment about not having the guys he wants as of yet and needing to figure that out.  Maybe then we shouldn’t have drafted depth guys with our first two picks and used them on guys that would fit whatever holes Leonard sees for us 🤷🏻‍♂️

As mentioned by @ Billsfan130 in this thread, I do like some of the coaches that Brady has put around him.

 

I am hopeful, but hopeful is not the feeling I am looking for.

 

I believe that Brady deserves some grace this year. Still, we are in a championship window, so Brady and Beane have 3 years to help Allen bring a title. Otherwise, they both need to be out.

 

Anything less than a championship in this window is a high bar for anyone. It's even higher for a 1st time head coach.

 

I like Brady. I am hopeful, but I am not yet confident in him and Beane's plan until I see how the run defense and WR room does and until Brady has a tough playoff coaching decision to make.

Pretty much where I am. I was fine with the hire from the start. I think Joe is a smart coach. He has done a decent job building a staff around him. But I also think there will be growing pains for Joe, I'm not convinced the defensive transition is a one year job (and actually the first year they installed the D in Denver was not great, it took a massive leap in year 2), and the schedule doesn't do them any favours. I feel like this will be more of a 2023 and 2025 type season where we are looking at other contenders results pretty much all year in terms of playoff qualification and seeding, rather than a 2024 where we were certain to be in pretty early. I also fundamentally still have the complaint I have had for multiple seasons... I don't know that we have sufficient elite level talent if the expectation is a Lombardi in year 1. My expectations are win double digit games, make the playoffs and continue to develop some of the young talent on the roster: Bishop, the 2025 rookies and then the new rookie class too. Anything else is a bonus and would need some peak Josh to achieve it. I really want to feel though by the end of the year that this new staff and roster is going into a bit of a window again in 2027.
