IF the Brady/Leonard/Carmichael unit sucks or isn’t as good as the previous regime. BUT the Bills may have actually pulled away IF the new coaching unit is the spark that this team needed and the Bills start firing on all cylinders with the new defense and tweaked offense. Complete unknowns at this point. 3 2 Quote

BigDingus Posted July 2 Posted July 2 I'll be honest, I am scared we might take a big step back this year. The Patriots have the advantage of coaching consistency, building off an AFC best record (tied), a Super Bowl appearance, and a runner up MVP at QB who's only entering his 3rd year. They did this while having the most cap space in the league & adding AJ Brown. Meanwhile, the Bills are up in the air. I have no idea what to think. This is the first time Allen has ever had a new HC. It's the first time we've had a new defense in this era. There were plenty of seasons where Drew Brees & Big Ben were statistically great but their teams were not. We will soon get to see how much McDermott either held back this team, or disguised many of its weaknesses. The uncertainty makes me nervous! Outside of that, we had some of the lowest available cap space in the league heading into the offseason, so we were again looking for bargains in FA & trades. Did we do enough to upgrade the roster? Beats me, but it seems pretty clear the Pats upgraded their's significantly. 4 Quote

If Leonhard can build a good defense, then the Bills will win the division and have a great chance to get to the Super Bowl and win it. Tougher teams in the AFC to worry about then the Pats. The Texans, Broncos, Ravens and even the Chiefs with a healthy Mahomes will be a challenge. Quote

They ALSO played 7 backup QBs on top of that. We need to dig a little deeper than “Pats had good record.” They had HISTORICAL luck and ease of schedule. Last year they had the 32nd hardest schedule in the league. The Bills were 27th. By percentage the Bills were closer to the 4th hardest schedule than the Pats were to the 27th hardest. 😂😂 Keep in mind, that doesn’t even factor in the 7 backup QBs when the Pats played teams. They are frauds and Maye was EXPOSED in the playoffs. Now I do agree that the Pats roster is better in 2026. It needed to be significantly better to get back close to where they were. They look like a team competing for a WC spot. They’re somewhere between 7-10 wins. Maye isn’t as good as he was in the regular season nor is he as bad as he was in the playoffs. He’s pretty good but he’s much closer to the 15th best QB than he is to the best QB. The Bills on the other hand win every year. They win regardless of who is out there outside of Josh. They have 6 straight years of 11 wins and a playoff win. They are the division favorites. Great QBs win all the time. They are about as sure a thing as there is in the NFL. Death, taxes and 11+ wins for the Bills is a lock. McDermott had very little to do with the success. I posted the stats elsewhere but it doesn’t matter who is coaching great QBs. The game’s best QBs win with whomever. Those same coaches records drop significantly when they don’t have an elite QB. Payton, Belichick, Reid, LaFleur, Fox, Dungy, McCarthy and Caldwell were the ones that I looked at. It’s night and day. The Bills will be fine regardless of who the coach is. 10 wins is the floor as long as 17 is upright. That’s the case for the next handful of years at least. The floor is the least of our concerns. The bottom is high. The ceiling is the question. Can the Bills go further than they have? Who knows is the answer but they will be there as always. Edited July 2 by Kirby Jackson 1 Quote

I'm not sure what to think of the Pats. You had a good season and we can't dispute that. Superbowl appearance. But I think they peaked. I truly do. Nowhere to go but down for Maye now that his tendencies are so blatant. I guess we will see this year. Should be a great AFC East battle. I don’t think he has peaked he is going have a very motivated Brown this year and Dobbs but the true test will be the O line was the season what Campbell truly was or did the playofffs show he needs be made a guard and the new 1st round pick put in his place.. but I will cheer hard for them if they go 14-3 or 3-14 they are my team good or bad. 1 Quote

Yeah, I don't think it's possible to conclude that any young QB has peaked early in his career. Maye could prove to be a Hall of Famer. 1 1 Quote

Watch the Patriots go 15-2 and the Bills 11-6 🤣🤣 The Patriots may have caught breaks on their 2026 schedule 🤮 Who would you rather play: the Seahawks or Rams? Pittsburgh or Baltimore? Jacksonville or Houston? Carolina or TB? We need to beat them twice to put them in their place. We need to go 6-0 in the division just to prove a point. We need to win all the home games to prove that we still have a significant home field advantage. I don’t wanna see any Billsy aw shocks, big lights trepidation in the new stadium. I think Josh will have everyone straightened out in the lockerroom. The least Brady can do is have his coaches in line and not making any dumb mistakes that cost us games. We need to win as many as we can… 11+ hasn’t been good enough. God I hate that the Patriots and their young QB have that Super Bowl taste in the mouths. Makes. Me. Sick. Meanwhile, the Bills haven't done much of anything to signal they'll be any better than they were last year. One could even argue that they'll take a step back after firing head coach Sean McDermott. Josh Allen is Superman on the football field, but he's going to need more than D.J. Moore and a middle-of-the-road defense to fly high enough to reach his first Super Bowl…. The Bills have to be seeing the moves being made by the Patriots, and it would be hard to imagine them feeling good about their offseason in relation to the competition. They are now faced with a situation where the Patriots have one of the best young quarterbacks in the league in Drake Maye and a top-10 defensive unit that gave Allen problems last season. Will the Bills ever wake up and realize fighting fire with fire is much better than laying the hopes and dreams of an entire franchise on the shoulders of one man?” Do you think this is justified or comically arrogant? Drake Maye is still playing on his rookie deal. When they have to pay him, things will change 1 Quote
TheBrownBear Posted July 2 Posted July 2 The Pats played a historically soft schedule and didn't look particularly great on the playoffs, but they did come into our building and beat us and it took a miraculous comeback to steal one from them in Foxboro. They've greatly upgraded their roster and have an established coach with a longstanding winning track record. We have a complete unknown rookie head coach, and while I liked our draft, I don't see any immediate impact players. All that said, we still have Josh Allen so the ceiling is always the Super Bowl. We need a killer instinct and congruent game plan (for kicking a s s, instead of complimentary nail biters) for all division games. We absolutely can’t just give away games to the Jets and Dolphins and whomever else we shouldn’t lose to. That leads to seeds #2-7 and slimmer margins for success in the late rounds of the playoffs. The days of throwing up stinkers need to stop. We know where that leads us. We’d be insane to think it’s an okay sign for us. Realistically, we need to be knocking at the door of the SB by next season. I’ll give Brady this year to fumble. But if it’s more of the same next year…. I’ll be very very depressed and ashamed. That brutal no-show loss at Miami last season can't happen again if the Bills want the #1 seed. If I remember correctly the Dolphins also gave the Bills a tough game in OP as well despite losing. The Bills curb stomped the Jets twice last year which is unusual since the games at MetLife are usually close ones. 1 Quote
Dillenger4 Posted July 2 Posted July 2 If our D steps and and becomes what I think it will be - we will be one of the toughest teams to beat in the NFL. Our O got better by adding DJ. Our O scores average 30 PPG. It's the D that needs to play like it should this season. 1 Quote

I think Rams > Seahawks, Ravens > Steelers, & Texans > Jags. Neither team plays Tampa or Carolina. Outside of Ravens & Steelers, I think the other ones are close. I just don’t see it. I think the Bills and Pats both go 4-2 in division. I think the Pats lose at Seattle, at Lions, at least 2 of at Bears/Chiefs/Chargers/Jags & at least 1 of Vikings/Broncos/Packers/Steelers at home. That puts them, at best at 10-7 IMO. 2 Quote
