Ray Stonada Posted June 25 Posted June 25 Came across this article: “The Patriots have seemingly pulled away in the race with the many moves they've made in the offseason. Meanwhile, the Bills haven't done much of anything to signal they'll be any better than they were last year. One could even argue that they'll take a step back after firing head coach Sean McDermott. Josh Allen is Superman on the football field, but he's going to need more than D.J. Moore and a middle-of-the-road defense to fly high enough to reach his first Super Bowl…. The Bills have to be seeing the moves being made by the Patriots, and it would be hard to imagine them feeling good about their offseason in relation to the competition. They are now faced with a situation where the Patriots have one of the best young quarterbacks in the league in Drake Maye and a top-10 defensive unit that gave Allen problems last season. Will the Bills ever wake up and realize fighting fire with fire is much better than laying the hopes and dreams of an entire franchise on the shoulders of one man?” Do you think this is justified or comically arrogant? 4 1 1 16 1 Quote
LeviF Posted June 25 Posted June 25 It's somewhat justified in the sense that this guy sees what everyone sees: a GM that is relying on his generational QB to carry the passing game entirely on his back. Nothing new or groundbreaking about that. Awfully short memory (or no memory?) of Allen against the Pats last year: 41 of 59 (69.5%), 446 yards, 5 TDs, 1 INT, 112.7 passer rating. I mean it's not sensational or lighting the world on fire but most QBs would love that stat line over two games against a "top 10 defensive unit." It's also extremely high on Maye who showed up and did almost nothing in the playoffs. Granted, he didn't have to do much until the Super Bowl but he managed to fall on his face there. 30 7 Quote

Definitely Beane has a lot to live up to now. And yes, Maye was horrible down the stretch and in the playoffs looked completely figured out. Did they have a huge offseason, though? 2 2 Quote
Kirby Jackson Posted June 25 Posted June 25 (edited) Comically arrogant. Even if they think that the Pats have “pulled away” they aren’t even the division favorite. Edited June 25 by Kirby Jackson 5 1 5 8 Quote

Doubs is good, Brown doesn't scare me at this point but he's regarded highly. Dre'Mont Jones is decent. If Vera Tucker can stay healthy that might work out very well. I thought their draft was just OK but that's a crapshoot, as Ralph would say. So I don't know about "huge" but it's bigger than the Bills' offseason for sure. All that being said the Bills are still regarded as the big dog in the AFCE for a reason. Edited June 25 by LeviF 3 1 Quote

It's both arrogant and justified. I went into this off-season expecting us to do more than we have. And looking at what the Patriots have done vs. what we've done - there's little question in my mind that they've done more. That doesn't mean they've pulled away and have the Division on lock though Edited June 25 by BillsFanForever19 3 1 Quote
H2o Posted June 25 Posted June 25 "The Patriots have seemingly pulled away in the race with the many moves they've made in the offseason." AJ Brown is a good WR. He helps with the loss of the 1,000 yd guy they just had in Diggs. Doubs best season was 724 yds, ooh, scary. Gilliam will help the ground game as a lead blocker. I like Raridon more than most, but I'm an ND homer. Will Campbell is still Will Campbell, and Morgan Moses is another year older at 35. Byard is about to be 33. They lost Chiasson. Vera-Tucker, meh. Maye kind of fell apart through the Playoffs. Josh has entered the chat. 3 Quote

corta765 Posted June 25 Posted June 25 I mean honestly I get it because their thoughts are much of what we have had so in that prism I agree, specifically at WR. But it completely ignores the one score luck they had last year and some things that propped up the team with a weak schedule. I have no issue saying Buffalo has their hands full and they cannot blow a game like in MIA again this year or the division can slip that fast. But their also ignoring some of their own flaws, the whole Vrbael thing which absolutely can derail them if they do not start fast, and things that could lower their record even if the overall team is better. Kinda how 2021 Bills I would argue were a better team then 2020, but record wise it wouldn't show that. 2 Quote
colin Posted June 25 Posted June 25 i expect to go 5-1 or 6-0 in the division. i think the pats win under 10 games. 3 Quote
sven233 Posted June 25 Posted June 25 (edited) You have to remember that Pats* fans truly believe they have the 2nd coming of Tom Brady at QB already even though he has only had 1 good season in the league. Even then, many even believe that season was aided by the weakest schedule of all time on top of a getting a lot of luck along the way. So, that is going to over-inflate their perception of their team. But what happens if now that the film is out on him, Maye takes a step or two back? And while I don't believe we have done as much as we should have, a lot is going to come down to philosophy change and a new vision. I mean, if Leonhard comes in and implements an attacking defense and is successful with it, and the offense is what it has been, even a potential drop in 4 points given up per game and an extra 2-4 possessions a game for the offense should be enough for us to be a better team overall providing we stay healthy. That said, our schedule is rough and is still probably harder than the Pats* schedule even though they are playing a first place schedule. But have they caught us or passed us? As long as we have 17 healthy, we will always have the best player on the field in every game and that counts for a lot. Edited June 25 by sven233 4 2 1 1 Quote

If he improves the defense and the offense continues to be what they have been in recent years, then the Bills will not only win the AFCE, but they will have a great shot to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl and win the game as well. 6 Quote
Shaw66 Posted June 25 Posted June 25 Oh, it's extremely arrogant. Classic Patriots fans. I mean, I don't blame them. If you have a run like the Pats had, it's hard not to believe that your team is somehow blessed by God. It's a lot like Yankee fans, who keep thinking their team is a dynasty. It WAS a dynasty, but every time the Yankees start to win a bit, their fans think the Pinstripes are about to win the next four out of five World Series. The Pats had one good season, based on won-loss. They played an extremely easy schedule. They absolutely didn't want the Bills in the playoffs. Roster changes in the off-season are over-rated. They always are. So, I'm not buying that their team has made any kind of quantum leap, at all. If you want to talk roster changes, the Bills are now putting Moore and Chubb on the field against the Pats, and that may be more important than any changes the Pats made. As others have said, the Bills are the big dog, and everyone outside of New England understands that. Pats fans can chatter all they want, but it doesn't mean anything until they win the AFCE this coming season. Until then, they're still the underdog. 5 3 1 2 Quote

Whites Bay Posted June 25 Posted June 25 It's the deadest of the dead season. Don't worry - it won't age well. As Bills fans, the Number 1 Question in our minds is the development and execution of Leonhard's defense. And I'd bet it's the Number 1 Question in HIS mind, because no one - including Leonhard - knows which pieces are going to fit where and when. This is largely a blank canvas. So that's OUR conundrum, and we'll collectively chew on that for the next 2 1/2 months (or more). If I'm a Pats* fan, OR if I'm a Texans fan, what's my Number 1 Question? Pretty simple..."What the hell happened to my quarterback in the playoffs, and should I be worried?" Stroud wasn't an NFL player in his final game, and Maye wasn't in HIS final game. You can woof and bark about Doubs and Brown and the Houston Defense all afternoon. That's just a lot of whistling past the graveyard. As Bills fans, we'd be sick to our stomach with worry if we had quarterback questions like that. 3 2 Quote

Josh took them to task to like you pointed out in the second game . Yes they have made some good additions to their team but I feel they are underestimating just what the Bills are going to be putting on the field this year . And oh yah like Jim Croce said in his famous song "Don't tug on Superman's cape" He may not like what he gets if he does ... Quote

bigduke6 Posted June 25 Posted June 25 (edited) still think Maye is a mid level QB and hes going to be PAID next season because he went to a SB. he had a mediocre to terrible playoffs but they will pay him. so there goes their cap room. putting a team around a QB after that big payday is miles more difficult.
