Man, that is just way too young. It’s so sad because he could’ve been one of the best to play the game and obviously had a lot of stuff going on in his life.

Very sad. He suffered from mental health issues that caused his issues while playing and beyond. RIP.

 

June is men’s mental health awareness month. Check on your friends and family and make sure they are doing well, have those conversations.  Speak up if you are having tough times and seek help.  Many men are experiencing issues, yet stay silent.

Geez. Tragic. I don’t know his story very well, just remember he had personal issues that affected his football career. Over the years there have been a number of athletes that suffered in this way. There are millions of humans that go through the exact same thing. We just don’t know them because they’re not public figures.

 

It is essential for someone struggling like this to visit medical professionals. Treatment saves millions of lives in the cases of severe brain/chemical  problems. I’ve seen the best of it, and the worst of it. It’s easy for stable people to know when a close one needs help; it’s hard to help them sometimes when they’re literally fighting themselves. I hope Aldon Smith rests in peace. He had a place in this world and I knew of him. And, he didn’t have a place in this world. It’s sad.

Obviously tragic when any young person passes, but it's especially tragic when there is a "wasted talent" element.

 

Myles Garrett is clearly the premier pass rushing specialist today, but Smith was every bit as good as him at getting to the passer and just couldn't keep the train on the tracks.

That 2011 draft is considered possibly the greatest D-line draft in history. The following D-linemen were all taken in the 1st round of that draft:

Such a great draft that over 15 years later, 3 of the players are still NFL active.
