Bro...

After 5 years in HS and 5 in college (3 of them), the Zhamar Jammar has a lot of miles on him and is entering only his 3rd season when he will turn 27.  He's a very good kick returner, but unless he starts against the Jets for the rest of his career, he's not going to be the feature back for many teams (let alone "10-12") in the NFL.

I completely understand Ray's comments given he is already 27 and knows his chance to make the big bucks is sometime over the next 2-4 years. Unfortunately for him, he's under contract with the Bills for two more seasons (earning roughly 1.2M and 1.3M). Not a bad chunk of change, but certainly well below market value for a good RB.

Bad luck for Ray, but hopefully he remains a good teammate and makes the most of his opportunities. He really helped us as a KR last season and I'd like to see that continue.

Have you read his articles on Beane, Brady, and Josh? If the most recent one (Josh) doesn't make you feel good I don't know what will...

he was drafted as an insurance policy if we failed to resign cook.  cook bent and signed a lower contract, and exploded into an al pro season leading the nfl in rushing yards, he still fumbles too much tho.

if cook gets hurt, or catches the butter fingers, davis will have his chance.

I don't blame Ray for having these thoughts..........i believe he brings a lot to the table and would probably be the starter on at least 10-12 teams.

I don’t think he would be a starter on any teams let alone 10-12. He’s an elite returner in the new kickoff format, but he didn’t have the best season last year as a conventional RB. Most of his RB stats came in the last meaningless game of the season. Even in his rookie year he was a solid but unspectacular RB2.

I don’t blame him for wanting more traditional RB carriers to add more value and set up a contract after this season. But let’s not act like he’s that great outside of his return abilities

Good luck here or anywhere. It's good to be ambitious. Given his situation it's understandable that he wants to do more but that's hard to do. Hopefully the young man learns patience and Brady can work him in to be successful in 2026

Honestly, I’d be more worried if he wasn’t feeling this way at least a bit

I don’t think he has a shot at being a workhorse here but he should want to be a contributing rb2

and all the better for us if we can soften cooks workload. I’d love to see him take a few tough touches away and let cook be a guy that takes on a few more hits from the back 7 than the front 7

Ray should have his best year, rushing and returning and demand a trade. It wouldn’t hurt  to show something in the passing game. Unfortunately a short term deal for a rb in his late 20s won’t get Ray what he’s looking for but if he can somehow produce in a featured back role that’s his ticket to the promised land. RBs get injured all the time, he needs an opportunity like that.

Wasn’t Davis pretty bad last year running the ball?  Especially in the beginning, very dismal results.

58 carries 275 yds for season

9 for 62 against Steelers

21 for 151 against Jets last game

It's Ty friggin Dunne stirring up drama. I spoke with Ray's brother recently and he said Ray just bought a new house in the area. Doesn't sound like a guy "forcing his way out."

That's kind of his deal.  Probably because people don't care much about fluff articles, they want some meat to chew on and writers want clicks and views.  So he will dig into some stories that make readers engage.

RB's get injured a lot.  James Cook got dinged up in 2025 as the season went on.  There's only one Derrick Henry.   It's likely that Davis will get his shot for significant playing time this year if Cook is getting worn down and they want to keep him fresh.  Just hang in there Ray.  And if he wants to move on at his first opportunity then so be it.  There will be 20 more Ray Davis' to take his place.

Dude, the guy in front of you led the league in rushing last year. You're not getting a training camp competition with him for the starting job. Get real.

I don't think it's about the starting job... it's about getting more PT.

Bills RB snaps in 2025:

Cook 727

Johnson 335

Gilliam 259

Davis 215

Gore 4

As a 4th rounder in the 2024 draft, I wonder what Davis' trade value is right now... is there a RB-needy team out there?

You spoke to Ray's brother.

Ty spoke to Ray himself, and these are simply direct quotes from Ray.

"All I want to do is just have a chance to compete and showcase my true ability," Davis said, "whether that's here or somewhere else in the near future."

"I'd be lying to you if I said I wasn't frustrated," Davis told Dunne. "My rookie year, I felt like I was really stepping into the light and really finding myself. And unfortunately Year 2, I was on the outskirts of the offense... I know I can compete, and I just want a chance to compete."

Those arent statements that Dunne wrote, or twisted. Those are things Davis said out loud, no matter who was recording it.

Nor did Dunne ever say Davis wants out or is pushing his way out. That was OP.

All Dunne said is "Davis wants the ball"

What was shared it sounds like he just wants a chance to compete and play. It didn’t sound to me like he was bashing the Bills or any coach’s just that he really would love for a chance to play. If I was a bills fan I’d be more worried if he was just content to collect his check and didn’t care to play.. this shows me if an injury happens he is hungry to step up and show what he can do.. but that’s my 2 cents

I want guys that want the ball. This is good. And he SHOULD be upset losing time to Ty Johnson. Ty filled in on more than just 3rd down as well. And he looked a step slower last year. I'm hoping Davis can push Johnson for those relief snaps. And if not and he wants to leave when his contract is up for a perceived better opportunity, good luck to him.

I'm just not overly concerned with Ray Davis.  He is a nice kick returner, but RB's in general are the easiest position to fill.  Their most productive years are 22 to 27 years old and then their start to tail off.  Many only average about 3 years in the league.

Right. And from Davis' perspective too, the clock is ticking. Barring the unthinkable (something about a bad injury to Cook), he's unlikely to get his shot with the Bills.

I get it, he's a competitor.

But I really feel like he lacks the vision that makes James Cook so good.

Remember when (almost) everyone was like, pssh let Jimmy go somewhere else, Ray Davis will take over! And in the spots we've seen him he just hasn't been great. Kinda runs into his OL at times, doesn't seem to have the same kinda patience.

He's made splash plays with screens and on kick returns but I dunno, just don't think he's good enough to steal carries away from Cook or Johnson right now.
