BuffaloBill Posted June 5 Posted June 5 For those of you who regularly listen to Joe Marino's podcast you will understand the title. I thought the concept was interesting and a serious comment on Beane's roster and drafts. Clearly, Josh Allen is a great player and was a great draft choice. You might also argue that Diggs, at the time the Bills acquired him, was a great player. However, who else has Beane added to the roster that really fits great vs very good? I bet you will struggle to come up with any names. Do you have any? 1 Quote

I think that was a McDermott draft and Whaley was there by name only It's absolutely ridiculous to suggest Sean McDermott, 4 months into his first head coaching gig had any idea who a 5th round linebacker was. Why do you think Whaley had trash drafts? he absolutely did not. His problem was he didn't hit at QB. I think his great picks (meaning they had at least one or two years of NFL elite play (top 5 or borderline top 5 at their position or role) are: - Josh Allen - Taron Johnson - Spencer Brown - Christian Benford - James Cook In this era we also had Tre White, Dion Dawkins, and Matt Milano, but they preceeded Beane. If by great you mean perrenial all pro and HOF caliber? That would be just Josh Allen. But I think that is a little too restrictive, personally. 1 Quote

His pro bowl hit rate is vastly below the people considered the top five GMS He does draft a lot of solid NFL players he is not great at identifying game changers 1 Quote

It was players that can change a game and are known to do so regularly. To me this means players that other teams truly have to fully account for in a game plan. Cook may be there. Kincaid when healthy may be there. Is there anyone on defense you can say this of, maybe Benford? 1 Quote
