I'd guess Eric was a star whereas Jim was a nobody then. And as we all guessed, Jim is a Rex Ryan disciple and he admitted it. Rex just lost it when he came to the Bills and lost the drive to work hard any more. It explains that Leonhard is going to be a player-coach in the way of letting them express fully of their views and he's try to guide and leverage their strength. And that matches what we have heard from the OTAs that those defensive players are excited that they are going to do what they do best. I also liked Eric asking Jim the question of how to prepare for Allen and Joe Brady as the opponent. Unfortunately he didn't reveal too much there other than the motion and formation stuff. I'm pretty sure Jim spelled the beans on what Denver thought of Allen, especially on maximizing his weakness -- maybe the long ball accuracy is something Jim brought up to Allen as well. 5 6 Quote
colin Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Vrable is a top flight NFL coach. His teams make few mistakes, are tough to play and very consistent. They follow his persona by being tough, physical, gritty, and dirty. They also are motivated and love playing for him. He's a better hc than assistant coach imo because he's a leader and motivator more than a brilliant mind (I think he's fairly far from that). Having been a player under a top coach is a big part of that I think Leonhard will be that for our D. The difference is he's shown with the badgers that he's an outstanding coordinator and he was not a big school star but a guy who squeezed his way into the NFL and played with smarts way more than talent Quote

For context, Id say we have heavily invested in our defense - albeit through the draft vs FA resources. Bishop, Carter, Max, Sanders, Landon, Walker, Solomon, Hancock, IGB, Kilgore, etc. All guys expected to have a role on this team, under rookie deals, 6 drafted within top 3 rounds between 2024-2026. 4th lowest in spending doesnt tell the whole story, is my point. 4 Quote

My absolute favorite offseason acquisition was Jim Leonhard. This was a bigger move than Brady becoming HC. We know the offense will always be elite. It would take a really special kind of stupid to mess that up. The defense needed a big change. I don’t expect it to come together perfectly in one year, but I think we will see a drastic improvement immediately. The defensive roster isn’t perfect, but i believe there are some very solid pieces to build around. Quote

Obviously while paying a QB huge money is going to automatically jack up offensive spending, unfortunately, we have a few bad contracts as well compared to production on the field. But it is what it is. Every team is going to have that. It's teams like the Rams though that seem to nail every important pick they have to get great players on rookie deals that also allow them to go get the best FAs or make huge trades for proven guys. 1 Quote

Almost every response he has is so cliche, as if he didn’t even listen to their answers and just goes directly to his next question. I find his interviewing style as extremely cringe worthy. Not a fan. Met the guy several times in Vegas and he (and Andy Levitre) were very approachable and seemed genuine. As an interviewer, I don’t find him as genuine. Over the top facial expressions and smiles with little substance to the interview. I agree with this but I’d also like to add that the rams have McVay….and he has the coaching skill to upgrade a Puka Nacua into a top 3 WR. While I think Puka would be a star on other teams, I don’t think he would be the superstar he is now if the Bills had drafted him. 1 Quote
