Jazz in New Orleans before Utah kinda started it. Oldest.

Another trivia question.  All MLB teams use initials as logo, except 2 teams.  Name the two teams with out letters in their primary logo.  Really only one team.  But that's debatable...

Blue Jays?

Orioles too... But they use "O"

...I think Jay's use a "T" BUT both are secondary logos IIRC...

Honorable mention: "M" "b" is the baseball mitt in Brewers logo:

Sure they do! Says right on their jerseys AND in the ESPN box score.  That's their proper name.

Oh... And btw... They are from Philadelphia.   The Philadelphia Athletics.😏

That's relatively a new phenomenon, last 30 years in sports going non-plural.

X in Sox acts as the plural.  IMO

I just trained Claude.AI in this. I asked it this question. First, it gave me the answer of Penguins. I corrected it, then it guessed Rockies, then Celtics. Then it said it didn't know the answer, and asked me if I knew. When I typed in Bills, it replied that it can now help other users with that same question.

lol

Ask it "What number under 1,000 has the letter "A" in it?" and watch it say something stupid.

Then ask it "How many "R's" are in the word strawberry?" and see if it claims "2" just like most AI does.

Curious to see if your own trained AI throws out random nonsense for these questions like so many others do 😅

You think you won.  BUT, abbreviated two-letter names with a possessive comma & s doesn't make the cut.  Americans are too fat, stupid and NOT very ATHLETIC anyway to follow that simple rule, so maybe you did win this argument.😉

Here is a better trivia question. Name the 9 teams in the 4 major US leagues whose names don't end with the letter "S"

NBA - Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Oklahoma City Thunder, Utah Jazz

NHL- Colorado Avalanche, Minnesota Wild, Tampa Bay Lightning

MLB - Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox

NFL - NONE. Every team's name ends with the letter "S" now that Washington went from Football Team to Commanders.

Nice!

No one calls them the Athletics though.  No fan has ever said "I've got tickets to the Athletics game", "are you going to watch the Athletics vs the Yankees tonight?", etc.

I mean there are a lot of teams like that but it doesn’t mean that’s it’s not their actual name.

My New York Knickerbockers are playing tonight

My point, yes.

They are no longer known as the Knickerbockers.  Not by fans or the organization itself, which presents and markets them exclusively as the "Knicks".

Also, OP clearly said team nickname, not team official name..

Even though it was only a minor league Soccer team I always liked the team name Buffalo Blizzard

Hypothetically speaking if we ever got another major league Sports team(I know it's not happening) I would be fine with them using the Blizzard as the team name

Not sure why you decided to get all nasty on this, but does raise a question I've had for a long time.  Why is it A's?  A's what?  The apostrophe denotes as you point out possessive. Again A's what?  Why not just A or if you have to make sure it 's plural, As? I guess they made their own contraction?  Weird. Glad my team doesn't do this.

Imagine my pain. And by the way, my two A's jerseys, one has Oakland, and the other has Athletics

Nasty?  I was keeping it real, sorry sunshine...😉😜

Abbreviation for:

Athletics

As (one letter short of As*... 😆)

Doesn't look right... Comma I guess is NOT mandatory but looks better.

Kinda like Wegmans Vs. Kohl's... It's up to the choice.

Yeah and you have arguably one of the best baseball movies about your team, the Oakland Athletics.
