Myles Garrett traded to Rams

I continue to believe that no defensive player is worth two 1st rounders. Garrett is maybe the one player I would make an exception for... But I'm okay not making this trade. Personally the trade I'm going to be bummed on missing out on is AJ Brown. I'd go all in on giving us an elite downfield passing offense and dare other teams to stop us.

I'd be more interested in this if Allen's deep ball didn't have the same accuracy as a Fulton Reed slapshot.

Do they want Rousseau?  Getting Verse back is really solid for them.

But at the end of the day, I get it .. Going for it would be getting both Moore and Brown, not just Moore.  We light money on fire with Palmer type signings anyway, so why not. 

Agreed that some of it is luck, but I would just love to once be one of those front offices that operates like the Rams and Eagles, or even Vegas and Hurricanes in hockey.

 

It’s a mindset and I think luck or not the Bills and Sabres don’t operate like the “go for it” organizations and with this QB they absolutely should.

Consider that Bruce Smith was a 1st team AP all-pro 5 times after turning 30, including a DPOY at age 33; or Reggie White who had a similarly long run of elite play after turning 30.  Garrett is in that class of player.  But we'll have to see if he has that kind of longevity. 

 

No doubt Garret is still a monster - And Rams definitely got better today at the expense of the future.  Which they are comfortable doing with a QB in the last year or 2 of his career.  I think I would have preferred to move the picks to address a position of weakness and kept Verse though.  But I also get it, they are 100% win now mode, and for that the trade makes sense.

He's drafted like six defensive ends and his best one has not much trade value and is not even a pro bowler.. he'd rather move back now then move up and get a guy he wants

 

He has a hard time drafting pro bowl talent let alone Stars

 

He always drafts good players but a lot of GMS can draft good we need legitimate big time difference makers now to get over the hump

 

He's probably drafted 12 defensive linemen and we have one pro bowler out of it.. that's really not a good hit rate

 

Rousseau was drafted 30th overall.

 

Verse was drafted 19th overall in 2024. Our natural pick was #28.

 

The Bills havent had a natural 1st pick higher than #20 since 2019. That was #9 overall. Since then it's been 25-30 range.

 

It takes a HUGE investment to move up from our spots, and even then, we'd be lucky to get to #19.

 

If you actually look at the last 5 drafts, and which players were picked +/- 6 picks around us, we havent missed on any pro bowlers that we should have picked instead.

Nope. They've got a good, young core. People ( understandably) rip on them, but remember they had the football with 3 minutes to go last year vs the Bills and could have won the game.

Hated the Ty Simpson pick, thought Rams could've waited for 2027 to get a QB in the 1st round.  But with this Myles trade, Simpson will be coached by the best offensive mind in Football, coach McVay and a great QB in Stafford who'll stay for two years and they'll be SB favorites.  Les Snead is a brilliant GM who all along had a plan (unlike someone we know here in Buffalo)

Because they hit on draft picks when they had the chance. Verse is selected 19th overall in 2024 and is widely recognized as a rising player. That same year, they also drafted DT Brandon Fiske at pick 39 who had 8.5 sacks as a rookie. 

 

Garrett is a first overall, Bruce Smith type of player whom Rams have no shot of drafting. But when you pick well, you can use those established assets to get a player like Garrett. Verse is an established player well worth a 1st round pick, fitting the Browns' intention of contending in a year or two. The other serious offer from the Eagles centered around Jalen Carter who is also a rising young player. Who does Bills have currently to offer anything close to that?

the more i think of it, the more this is like the goff/stafford move.

 

i get alpha's point about who is a better prospect at this point in their careers, but the point remains, this is giving away draft picks (and players) to upgrade a top value position.

 

it's clear the rams value absolute stars at

1 qb

2 pass rush

3 corner

 

they throw money at tackle and WR, but their big big moves are for the above 3, and they've made them more than once.

 

i think they also value coaching, and they have done their analysis to identify which coaching matters (to them, it seems like it's about mcvey and dc, they train the rest).

 

i think their gm and beane see the world in a somewhat similar way, but they go about it quite differently.  beane is evidently close on a lot of these, i think he likes "winning" trades more, rams guy is more than happy to set the market, and frankly is partially allergic to 1st round picks.

 

i bet beane thinks the difference between him having a ring and dude is that dude has a top flight coaching staff, and i'll bet beane thinks he solved that this season.

 

we play them in a big game kinda early this year.  i expect insane excitement.  allen is gonna be lit.

the rams both draft well and simultaneously value their picks properly. theyve been well ahead of nfl orthodoxy wrt pick vs player trade compensation. love their approach personally

The question is if he sticks around after 3 seasons. I think it's a good trade for the Browns though.
