i don't quite agree, but there is a fair amount of space, including with injury, where verse has a better season next year than garrett.  

 

it's very linear tho, they are paying a first, plus whatever else, and the cost difference (which is enormous) to upgrade from very good (verse) to the best (garrett).  that's exactly what they did with goff and stafford.

Compiling an all-star team rarely works in the NFL.  Good for the Rams for taking their shot, but that season could easily go off the rails for many reasons, mainly Stafford.

If the Browns wanted a young good pass rusher in return then it would take 3 first round picks to make the value work, or maybe 2 firsts and a second. It would have been a lot.

Tell me Beane’s not a problem, without telling me Beane’s not a problem. Post Von, guy never takes swings anymore. Scared shitless. Which is why we’ve hardly any elite players. Plenty of good, but not enough elite.

I would have been fine dealing two firsts and a second.  Or maybe they could have traded Rousseau and two firsts.  When there's a will there's a way but Beane is just way too cautious about giving up draft picks which is frustrating because he isn't a great drafting GM to begin with.

Would help if everyone selling players wasn’t in our division or conference. 
 

What could we have offered to match Verse, a 1st, plus picks?

 

Do they want Rousseau?  Getting Verse back is really solid for them.  
 

Would we have to go above and beyond given we’re in conference?

 

But at the end of the day, I get it .. Going for it would be getting both Moore and Brown, not just Moore.  We light money on fire with Palmer type signings anyway, so why not.

Verse has 3 years left on his rookie deal.  He’s probably worth two 1st rounders himself.  Groot is maybe worth a late 2nd at $20m+ per year.  It would’ve taken at least three 1st’s to equal what the rams gave up and he’s headed out of the conference.  So probably three 1sts plus Groot to compete with rams offer.
