HamptonBillsfan Posted May 29 Posted May 29 I had great respect for Sean as a high integrity, awesome leader type HC, who demanded maximum effort and dedication. Unfortunately his gameday decision making and personnel evaluations held the team back at the worst possible times. The players loved this guy and would run through a wall for him but coaches who don’t get to the big game should always be replaced after 10 years. There is no real upside to staying the course, especially when the franchise QB has a window and still has deficiencies at positions that could put the team over the top. Brady has surrounded himself with an impressive supporting staff and he’s a contemporary of the player leadership. I like the move. 1 Quote

I was sold on RJ's skillset. He had a great arm, was big, and accurate. I really expected him to be great. Once I was in the parking lot of RWS drinking beer at a tailgate with the great @Bob Lamb. I asked Bob why he didn't like RJ. His answer was "because he sucks." He saw this before I did but I was not alone. Bob's reply did stick with me. In any event, Flutie was part of a qb controversy, and his personality was not all that great. Didn't he schedule a gig with his band when we were alive in the playoffs? My podiatrist went to Boston College with Flutie and said he was not a popular person fwiw. In hindsight, the irony of that controversy is if you were backing either horse you were probably wrong, but if you just happened to hate one of them for whatever reason you were probably right. 2 Quote

Did they have to abbreviate the name on the back of the jersey for Marty Schottenheimer? Or did they just squish it in? I seem to recall it was something odd. 1 Quote
TheBrownBear Posted May 29 Posted May 29 Was OJ polarizing with the fan base? Like, everyone loved OJ and had fond memories of him showcasing his talent here, but viewed the later murder of his wife and Ron Goldman as a horrible generally unrelated act and that he was a despicable person. I don't really view that as polarizing. I don't view McD as particularly polarizing. He was a good coach, maybe given too long of a leash and his time eventually came to an end like a lot of coaches. He won a ton and nothing really grating or problematic about his personality (unless you hold the clapping against him). Rex, Manboobs and Saint Doug were more polarizing coaching figures to me. So, I'll go with Flutie or Rob Johnson. Kind of a two sides of the same coin type of thing. 3 Quote
Since1981 Posted May 29 Posted May 29 It will depend upon 2026 results. Like presidents…what happens “next” matters for a coach. (Greg Williams is up there, or was he just an ahole) 1 Quote

But I also appreciated both of those guys for their unique gifts at the same time. Most people pick one guy or the other, while I wish one of them could have been the real, complete deal. So, it’s both sides of the coin, for both coins. I’ll leave now, before this turns into math. 1 Quote

He has a group of avid supporters who think he got a raw. From my perspective a pretty wide range of feelings exist here and some are on very extreme sides. At the least he is in the discussion. Oh, I 100% agree that the "McDermott staying as HC" was the most polarizing Bills argument, at least of this century. I just took the question literally as to who was the most polarizing figure. 1 Quote

Kelly I can sort of see and agree with your call out. McD has intensity on both sides that isn't like other topics from my POV. Perhaps that's just a byproduct of recency. I think that a lot of people feel strongly that Diggs behavior here as a teammTe was justified, because he's a dawg or whatever, and he never should have been traded. 1 Quote
HappyDays Posted May 29 Posted May 29 I think McBeane as a duo is the most polarizing figure in Bills history. If both had been fired at once, or both were kept, there would have been some detractors (myself among them if we had kept both) but I think the fanbase by and large would have understood the decision. Firing one but not the other is why the ensuing discussion became so passionately combative all over social media. But McBeane is only polarizing because of Josh Allen. If we had drafted Darnold back in 2018, we'd already be one or maybe even two regimes removed from McBeane and no one in the fanbase would care. Ultimately the most valuable player in franchise history just turned 30 and hasn't even made it to a single Super Bowl. Considering the city's awful sports history, it's no surprise that outcome has driven everybody a bit crazy. 1 1 Quote
