Johnson is turning 30 years old in July and has two years left on his deal. However, none of the remaining years are guaranteed, leaving him vulnerable to being released by The Raiders. This has led Johnson to want a new deal with guarantees to make him feel secure with the Raiders. He has been absent from voluntary workouts, and Vincent Bonsignore of the California post reported that his contract is the reason he hasn’t been with the football team.

meh - I can’t blame him for at least wanting this year a bit firmed up

This shouldn’t be surprising. Taron is a veteran player going from an elite team to the team that just picked first. He is right to want stability. Money has to be priority 1 and that’s especially true in this particular situation.

Yeah, the Raiders a a bad team that just picked #1 overall.  Taron just came from a perennial Super Bowl contender and has leadership and big game experience. If the Raiders hope to turn things around, this is the kind of guy they need to toss a bone to. Guys like Johnson can help reshape a culture.

Meh, voluntary workouts at this point. If he doesn't show up for the mandatory camps then it's a holdout. I imagine the Raiders will throw him some gtd $$$ for 2026, but not 2027.

When the Raiders cut him in December do we sign him?

I thought we entered the era of shopping for Bronco's castoffs...

I don’t know.
You only get one chance to make a first impression.
He’s got to learn a new system and new teammates.

I think it would be smart to be there for voluntary OTA.

Show that you’re a hardworking team guy.

Then hed have some leverage in negotiations. As I recall, his contract was too rich, and Bills were going to cut him.  So maybe he should negotiate a pay cut for a guarantee
