Nate Odomes was one of my favorite lesser-known stars of the 90s Bills. He had a knack for big plays at the biggest times, was always around the ball downfield, and he was a 2nd team All-Pro. In 1993, he led the NFL with 9 interceptions for us.

I think about him sometimes as he is not part of the famous crew (Thurman, Andre, Bruce, Jim, Tasker) that gets together at the Hall of Fame and Super Bowl, but he, like so many guys, was a warrior who was a huge part of those Bills.

Congratulations, Nate!

What's the over/under on how many pages this topic goes?  I say 1.5.

Not the most exciting topic, but hey! Nate deserves some love.

Weird that Tasker is part of the “famous crew” and Odomes isn’t. One is a STer (the greatest ever, I get it it, but it’s still special teams) and the other is your CB1 in a division featuring Dan Marino.

I’d love to hear thoughts on this.

That's a long time since HS graduation. Who voted him in, the Veterans Committee?

See that a lot, particularly in City sports HOF, the perfunctory invite. Guess it all boils down to wanting a free(?) night on the town and your name on a plaque/wall. 🤷‍♂️

It is only because Tasker got involved in broadcasting and has been front and center as a team ambassador and in front of the fans ever since. He was loved as a player for sure, but he also embraced the city and stayed very involved with the team after retirement.

Guess it makes sense. I feel like he is more known amongst casuals for his broadcasting than his playing career like Chris Collinsworth.

Because everybody that played the Buffalo Bills for years all the coaches said Steve Tasker is one of the biggest people they ever had to game plan against

You never hear a coach saying we had the game plan against Nate Odom's even though he was good

Super bowl winning coaches talked about how much they had to prepare for Steve Tasker

Partially true but not totally

In the 90s during the Super bowl runs all of the top coaches would mention Steve Tasker as a guy that they are up late at night scheming against

That Steve Tasker keeps coaches awake trying to game plan to keep him ineffective

You didn't really hear that about Nate odoms even if he was really good...

Steve Tasker had the respect of Hall of Fame and Super bowl winning coaches.. they would put Steve tasker's name in their mouth every single week which made his legend grow

Maybe it’s because I was too young, but it just seems like the guy you stick on the opposing teams best receiver should have more of a consistent effect on the game.

I could understand if he was a better kick/punt returner, but I’d rather have Odomes.

I didn't read the article - maybe he's been involved in the HS athletics. Either that or the HS has an impressive HOF. But my initial reaction was wtf took so long. In the end, good for him.

2nd most blocked punts in modern NFL history including in a SB

Most Forced fumbled by a gunner in NFL history

Over 200 special team tackles most in NFL history when he retired

The alignments changed because him.. sure Odom's was a beast

But like Bill belichick always says special teams is a third of the game.. he's the best third ever

It really depends how much you value special teams

Odomes left for Seattle and bigger money, Tasker stayed and remained the "humbled lesser known more loved STer". Toss in stuck around after his retirement. It's why guys like Kelly and Thurman are more loved than Bruce and Andre.

Living in Buffalo after retirement is the number one way to be beloved, for sure. Since us Buffalonians' oldest insecurity is that we are "the armpit of America," rich, famous people choosing to stay allays the anxiety.
