But in 2027, we may have day 1 openings at OG and S.

I don’t think we be looking to draft a S prior to rd 5 next year.  Between Kilgore and Hancock, I think one will show enough this season to bypass drafting one early. Also a slight chance that this is the perfect situation of Cjgjand he wants to return after a successful season

Hate to see Gray go if he does, but this type of stuff is the sign of a healthy franchise, that people are plucking your people. It’s a good thing.  The picks are a nice bonus.

If the Bills win the Super Bowl, Jim Leonhard is probably gonna get a head job. It is what it is, and just good stuff.

Front office executives are easier to find than a backup LB on a rebuilding defense.

Maybe.

But good front office executives are not.

Then again, I don't know how good he is.

Beane could always step down as GM and just remain President of Football Ops.

I had forgotten Brandon is both the President and GM. This is exactly what I expect to happen either this year or next.

Then Joe Brady hires Sean McDermott as Defensive Coordinator.

Kind of weird that the team that loses the coach/GM gets the picks.

If want to incentivize minority hires, It would make more sense that the team that signed the person get them?

No.  It incentivizes teams to hire minorities ias O/D coordinators and as high level FO execs.

it rewards teams for developing them into HC and GM material

Only thing I remember seeing of Gray on those embedded videos is when he was sitting down with someone else scouting Elam. “I’m with you, I think this guy can help us.” Don’t know how good or bad he is as a scout, but that stuck in my memory.

It would be great to get 3rd rd comps, but we’ll see if the Vikings are open to hiring an outsider:
As of early May 2026, Rob Brzezinski, the team's long-time executive vice president of football operations and interim GM, is considered the overwhelming favorite to become the permanent Minnesota Vikings General Manager.

There are rumors that Rob Brzezinski could be elevated to President of Football Operations, with Terrance Gray (or someone else) being named General Manager. If that were to happen, the Bills would not be eligible to receive draft pick compensation, because Gray would not be considered the primary football official in the Vikings organization.

This is similar to what recently happened with the Bears. Their AGM, Ian Cunningham, was hired away by the Falcons, but Chicago did not receive draft pick compensation because Matt Ryan, not Cunningham, is considered the Falcons' primary football official. The Bears appealed the NFL’s original decision, but the appeal was denied as well.

Another NFL shell game.  But they have to bank some 3rd round comps to distribute to the Pats.  Vrabel DNA test being negative = a pick for disruptive gossip.  Vrabel DNA test being positive = a pick for 7 years of good secret keeping.

It’s actually a fairly common structure. Most of my background is in baseball, and this type of setup has existed there for years, with a President of Baseball Operations serving as the highest-ranking executive and a GM reporting to them. It gives organizations flexibility to retain talented executives who are drawing outside interest, or to bring in high-end talent from other clubs that otherwise may not have been attainable. The tradeoff, of course, is that there’s typically no draft pick compensation tied to those arrangements.

Honestly, if the Bills get the sense that the Vikings are planning to hire Gray as GM under Brzezinski, I wouldn’t be surprised if they simply adjusted the structure internally and promoted Gray to GM themselves because they wouldn't receive draft pick compensation. At that point, he’d effectively be reporting to someone above him in either scenario anyway and he may prefer to stay in Buffalo rather than uproot his life for a similar role.

That’s some BS. The Bills should just do the same thing if that’s the case.

Wow.  Really bad look by the NFL.  Anyone really believe Matt Ryan is the man calling all the shots on football decisions.  The Bears got screwed big time.

It’s like when Marv Levy was the Bills GM or whatever his title was. He LITERALLY slept through the big draft prep meeting where they discussed prospects. 😂😂 He had about as much say in football decisions as members of TBD.

I say this at my work when we are hiring talent...  you wanna be Ohio State... send players to the pro's consistently then all the best will wanna come play for you....

*** funny enough I started saying that so long ago the Alabama was the team I highlighted... but I have since switched to OU to be relevant... lol

Good for him on the interview.  Not sure if this was meeting the Rooney rule, or has done enough for serious considerations for a GM hire, but at least he’s getting experience in GM interviews.

If we lose him and don’t get 3rd rd compensation I would blame it on ego.  Beanes ego.  Theres no reason to lose an asset like him for nothing when we can wait another year or 2 until someone else makes him their GM and we can receive 2 3rd rd picks.  Those are important resources that they should be looking forward to being rewarded.

That said, I expect minny to sign him and we get nothing
