wppete Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Once again Cover 1 with the best Bills content out there. Rousseau is going to be a terror at OLB in the new scheme. 4 1 Quote

Once I saw DJ Reader was picked up , it truly came to me. Jim and Brady and bb like what they have and feel they can have success. Going to accept that till we see anything less Go Bills Very nice link , cover 1 can be great stuff ! and Thank you 2 Quote

He played RB for St John Fisher college team, tried some coaching from California to western NY, then went on to graduate from scouting academy (a school preparing for those to pursue career of scouting), worked for NDT scouting, before he started Cover 1 into the media world. I remember he was upset that Bills turned down requests from cover 1 for Bills media credentials, but you can see from his career, he's likely to have some connections to some team front offices. When someone starts out for coaching, your first job is always breaking down film. I didn't know any of this... thanks! 👍 1 1 Quote
MrEpsYtown Posted May 7 Posted May 7 This was an excellent episode. Really good breakdown and some cool insights from Groot Quote
Mikie2times Posted May 7 Posted May 7 I like his call out to stride being an advantage he couldn't really leverage as much with his previous base alignment. It's impressive when he's in space how quickly he forces the tackle out of his stance and into position. With his length and power he's going to find a lot of wobbly tackles not ready to take on his bull rush if he gets a little outside leverage. He could really break out this year. 1 2 Quote

HoofHearted Posted May 7 Posted May 7 (edited) I must have watched a different video than the rest of you. Thought it was more a fluff piece than anything super informative about JL’s scheme. I wouldn’t have expected anything else at this point though. These guys are just now going through install meetings and aren’t practicing any of this on a field yet. The whole thing is at its infancy. EDIT: For the eye roll crowd - I'm not knocking the video. Just thought there was going to be more there based on the title of this thread. Sierra Foothills Posted May 7 Posted May 7 I watched the entire 4th quarter of last December's game against the Bengals (a 39-34 win in Orchard Park). The Bills easily could have lost that game except for consecutive picks by Burrow (Benford's pick six and Epenesa catching a ball tipped by Jordan Phillips) and a 4 TD game from Josh. Every single play in that 4th quarter, Rousseau lined up on the left side in a 5 technique. In the posted video Groot and Turner were specifically talking about him lining up wider to get more runway and utilize his speed more. Quote

Easy to diagnose post-snap, but every defense is to veteran Quarterbacks. Couple that with zero pass rush and you get what we've been watching the past few years. Quote

For the past couple of seasons I've marveled at seeing him run wide to pressure if not take down quarterbacks who have escaped containment. He is a big athlete who can run fast. I don't predict much of anything any more, because I simply don't know. But I think it's quite possible that a year from now we're going to conclude that McDermott spent five years of Rousseau's career playing him out of his natural position, sticking a truly special square peg into a small round hole. I believe @HappyDays is the guy who's been clamoring for years for a true difference maker on defense, and maybe the Bills have had him all along. We'll see. Just for example, it seems to me that Bernard can be an even more effective linebacker when he has an athlete like Groot playing beside him. Quote

Creativity, aggression and spacing were all discussed. Helpful for me that's not a nuts and bolts football guy and good to hear directly from an important player. 1 Quote
