Cooks, Thompson and Tre all had solid seasons...and if I am being honest, I wouldn't be pissed (for the right price) if they brought Von Miller back for one more season. He had a pretty solid season in Washington, and he seems very motivated to play..as opposed to just get paid. But, who knows...I am so curious as to what this defense is going to look like something to keep in mind about all those guys, and von -- they were all top flight first round picks before getting hurt. when other guys like say milano (who i think might still have some tread on the tires, but the example stands) go from outstanding performance to hurt and then not good, i think it kinda tells us why some players are projected and selected in round 1 and others in round 5 1 Quote

Tre is currently unsigned and I think we’d all agree he had a pretty good season. Seems like a no-brainer to add his experience (and skill) to that room. I hope not. Loved him, but time to move on from all the old guard. Just say no to every instinct to run it back. Quote

I am guessing that since he not really played much press man coverage and is borderline washed as a zone corner, they are not bringing him back. For crying out loud, he was not available for the one moment the team really, really needed him; Dane Jackson got fried for the season-ending score and Beane perhaps said, "I've seen this movie two years in a row (Elam in relief of Benford the year prior) and I am not going through this again". Hence the drafting of IGB and probably the goodbye to Tre. Quote
BigAl2526 Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Not terribly surprised. White is probably not terribly fast any more. When drafted, he had above average speed, but was not a burner by any means. The knee injuries have probably slowed him down. Leonhard may also be concerned that White could be a bit fragile for the physical style he wants to play. Still, his experience and solid play in 2025 would be hard to ignore as they fill out their roster. Quote
eball Posted May 5 Author Posted May 5 Ok! Looks like I’m the only one surprised they aren’t bringing in an all-time Bill with a great reputation and work ethic to help the youngsters along. He was pretty good last year too. Message received, loud and clear! 1 Quote

Message received, loud and clear! Even if they felt he was a fit in the new Defensive scheme, there just isn't a place for him. The first 3 spots are written in pen with Benford, Hairston, and IGB - on a team that generally only carries 3 Boundaries and 2 Nickel's on the 53. To sign him and bring him to Camp would be for him to be this years version of Dane Jackson. A guy who would be on the Practice Squad in a break glass in case of emergency role, if everyone were healthy. Best case scenario is they keep 6 and even then, he's inactive on Game Day. And even that would be assuming Dorian Strong has to retire. If he is able to bounce back, they'd keep him over Tre. I don't think that's something Tre would want to sign up for and I don't think that's something they'd approach him to do. I think he'd (and probably a lot of vets with minimal options) rather just wait and see if any team got dealt a number of injuries. Bc to sign here would be to be locked up in a place where there's no real opportunity and better opportunities could present themselves by waiting. It's honestly a shame that McDermott took a year off bc I'm sure he'd be following him wherever he went. Edited May 5 by BillsFanForever19 Quote

That's not how it works. They get hurt right before we play KC in the afc championship ... From 21 to 25 we have had a significant injury in the secondary every single year before the playoffs or in the playoffs. Its wild Edited May 5 by Kelly No huddle 1 Quote

You know we spent a 2nd Round Pick on a Cornerback for that very possibility, right? That's a helluva high investment for you 3rd Corner. It's like people want to pretend like we didn't do that bc they have warm fuzzies for Tre. Edited May 5 by BillsFanForever19 Quote
HoofHearted Posted May 5 Posted May 5 8 hours ago, SCBills said: No. Tre was good last year but I don’t know that he fits into the “play on an island” aggressive defense Leonard wants to deploy. Benford is a dawg. Hairston has speed & athleticism. IGB was hand selected for this Defense. Thats 3 outside CB’s that would likely be ahead of him. If there’s no starting opportunities out there, I could see him coming back to be the elder statesman, CB 3/4, depending on IGB’s readiness, but I can’t imagine our Secondary and/or new scheme is too alluring for an aging Corner. People here need to temper their expectations. JL will play more man than we have overall in the past, but it's not going to be much more than we played last year. He wants to sit in variations of Cover 3 as much as he possibly can. Tre would be fine in this defense. 2 1 Quote

Even that, we can't be certain will be exactly the same. As he wasn't running the Defense in Denver. But one thing that can be read into is that this team felt that even with Benford and Hairston, we needed to trade back into Round 2 and spend a premium asset on a Cornerback - who played primarily and who's strength was Press Man Coverage, when we had what was assumed to be more pressing needs elsewhere and could have brought Tre back to be CB3 for pennies if we wanted to. That speaks volumes. Edited May 5 by BillsFanForever19 1 1 Quote
RunTheBall Posted May 5 Posted May 5 I love Tre. I hope he signs to the PS just for his personality and when we win a ring he gets one. He’s not going to be on the active roster. 1 Quote

That speaks volumes. His strength is Press. Not press man. Matt Patricia runs a ton of Cover 3 at Ohio State and they press the corners frequently. He's not a press man corner - the hip fluidity isn't there. EDIT: As far as knowing the scheme... his verbiage all stems from the Aranda system. Look up Aranda's defense - it'll give you a pretty clear picture of what to expect this fall. The only difference is Aranda dabbles more in Quarters than JL will. Edited May 6 by HoofHearted Quote
Shortchaz Posted May 6 Posted May 6 The “system > than the personnel” days got us here. I was sick of it years ago, hopefully this new regime brings some fire. Play to the talent/take risks. Quote
Kelly No huddle Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Buffalo plus said Tre was working out at the bills facilities. I don't know if that means anything tho Quote

Yeah could see this happening with the PS route. Maybe they know Strong is coming back so not really a spot on 53 for him Quote
DJB Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Absolutely not surprised at all. He’s slow and better playing off in zone We are going with bigger more physical DB’s with press man coverage Quote
Thrivefourfive Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Not at all. “Younger and faster.” He’s telling you who’s gonna be on the roster. Quote
