Particularly given Beane’s secondary depth fears, I’m surprised this hasn’t happened. Tre is currently unsigned and I think we’d all agree he had a pretty good season. Seems like a no-brainer to add his experience (and skill) to that room.

No, but I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t get signed by the Bills or some other team. With his experience I don’t think he needs a lot of time to get up to speed anywhere. I expect that he’ll either go to a team that gets hit with the injury bug or come back to the Bills as depth. More money in the former, so he’s doing the right thing taking his time.

I hear ya, but Tre has made a good chunk of change in the NFL and seems like a smart dude so I doubt (but could be wrong) that squeezing every dime out of his last year or two is the issue. But we’ll see.

He may also want to see if the opportunity to start somewhere presents itself. It could be about getting on the field.

I feel like if they bring him back it would be like a Poyer last year... on the PS there for player/mentor etc... and if we need him you roster him...  that just my gut instinct, but that and 7 Bucks will get you a large double double at Tims...

Not really surprised, for a couple reasons.  First, our defense needed an influx of speed and that's the direction we are moving toward if you see our 3 draft picks and FA acquisitions.  Second, our depth is now pretty set.

Boundary Corners: Benford, Max, IGB, Alford, Pride (if needed), and the outside shot that Dorian Strong returns

Nickel: Alford, CJGJ, Toriano Pride (this is his best fit IMO), and then depends how they mix in our young safeties (Kilgore and Hancock)

Safety: Bishop, CJGJ, Stone, Kilgore, Hancock, Franklin, Hamlin

Our secondary, barring injury, is the unit I am the most excited about.  Over past few years, Beane has completely transformed this group --- more speed, Leonhard has a lot of "chess pieces" to play close to the line/blitz and matchup in man coverage, and hopefully a 3rd guy steps up to probowl caliber (along with Benford & Bishop).

This is great. Thanks.

My reaction when I saw the question was that I'm not surprised at all. Athletes want to play. Last season White could look at the roster and see a road to playing time. This season, when he looks at the roster, he can't see it.  Bills have what looks like two starting corners and what looks like a third, so White isn't likely to be an answer the Bills need. Plus, teams are always looking to the future, to get younger, and White can see the Bills heading down that road, too. White's good enough to play somewhere in the league, and his heart may be in Buffalo, but I think the Bills have sent him a message.

Nope.  Its past time to turn the page on the guys McDermott constantly kept brining back, and get some youth on this team.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings if he did & bring Von back while you're at it . If they can get these guys on some very friendly contracts it's not like Von hasn't made his money Tre made some but not nearly as much due to his injury's but I'll bet he ain't hurting & another million in the tank couldn't hurt .

No not surprised. Might get signed then get cut before season. Don’t see him a fit in Leonard defense. Leonard wants man corners that can tackle. Tre is neither of those.

I'm wary of the "bring him back at the Vet minimum--he can be a mentor" situations. That's what coaches are for and they don't take up a roster spot or count against the salary cap.

Also, there has to be a balance of young and old on the roster. For every crusty old vet you bring back, you are denying a spot for a developing promising player for future use. The Bills are in the middle of the pack for NFL roster age, I takes work to keep it that way.

In August, if the Bills don't like their roster--sign Tre. If he is snatched up by then--oh, well.

I thought he played great last year compared to my expectations. He’s also one of my favorite Bills. I think he was a PERFECT fit in McDermott’s defense. I also think he’s a less than ideal fit in Leonhard’s defense. It feels a little “square peg in round hole.”

I am surprised and I imagine he does get signed.

Mike Catalana of Buffalo Plus and WHAM ABC in Rochester said yesterday on the Buffalo Plus Podcast that Tre is actually working out at the bills facility everyday with the team even though he is a free agent.

There must be a reason they have not signed the papers yet.  Maybe they are waiting until after the rookie minicamp and everything is sorted out.

Yep - this. Tre is done, was done last year too. Yes, he made some plays during the season - but he also cooked us in the playoffs. I don't want Tre anywhere near this new team. I'm sure Jim Leonard is saying the same thing. If they bring him back it's a BAD look for Beane IMO.

He Made the game winning/clinching play at Jacksonville in the wild card game.

Yes - a tipped ball. He also blew the Denver game 100% and threw his helmet on the ground like a baby. he also got coooooked on a few passes.

Also - your report of him working out at the Bills facility is wrong. That would be tampering unless he is on our roster. Anyway, we will see. I think he was a McD disciple.

A- It's not my report....Mike Catalana said it on the Buffalo Plus Podcast.

B - You said he cooked us in the playoffs, If he doesn't make that play vs Jax there is no denver game.  Yes He played poorly in the fourth quarter of that game.

No, there is no rush to sign him, and he's in no rush to sign. Same for all our old vets currently sitting home.

They dont want to come to camp (nor do they really need to). And we'd rather use the roster spot on a young player and see if they develop. If not, we can always pull the rip cord and bring in the vet.

WRT Tre specifically, he'd be lower on my list than Shaq, Cooks, or Milano. Not sure he'll translate to Leonhard's Defense that well.

No teams are signing anyone right now. Wait until the rookie deals are done and June 1 comes around.
