It’s interesting to me that the Bills never extended Schnowman to free up cash.  Dawkins is 32, coming off his most penalty filled seasons.  He led the NFL in False Starts.   If he gets cut next year, there will be big cap savings, along with big dead cap.

Factoring  all of this, I surmise Dawkins is not in Bills plans, next season.  Just conjecture on my part, but something to consider.

Its something to pay attention to this training camp....

If Bowry is great right away and Dawkins is outplayed.  Idk I think this could happen sooner than ppl think.

I dont expect that to happen and i think Dion will be really good this year but picking Bowry with their 1st pick in rd 4 tells me something. They had an entire day to think about picking anyone and they took a tackle...

I do think Bowry will challenge at guard too obviously

I will say this, he best come to camp in shape... or I do not think he will be in the 2027 plans

I don't think it's any surprise he wasn't extended. We extended him two years ago to a deal that has him under contract until the 2028 off-season. No reason for us to extend him now when we have him until he turns 34 years old.

Now, could you read into the fact that we didn't restructure his contract this off-season? Yes, I think it's fair to say that reads as though that they don't want to make it harder on themselves to get out of his contract if they have to.

But I wouldn't say it means he's definitely not in their plans. Just that they're protecting themselves if he regresses. As you pointed out, he is 32 and he did have a lot of penalties last season.

However, Offensive Tackles, especially talented ones that stay relatively healthy (as Dawkins is and has), age out longer than a number of other positions. And while last year wasn't his best year, he still is one of the better and certainly more reliable Left Tackles in Football. There's many teams that would love to have Dawkins as their LT.

All this to say that I don't believe they're already planning on him not being here next year. Especially with a 13m Dead Cap hit. Just protecting themselves. And that restructure that hasn't happened could still be done before the start of the season (although I think it's wise not to).

I think, as usual, you're putting the carriage WAY before the horse here.

Jude Bowry, regardless of how he looks this summer, will not be supplanting a healthy Dion Dawkins this year. Period.

Bowry was the 13th Offensive Tackle Drafted, selected 102nd overall on Day 3 of what was considered a lackluster Draft. Unlike the next 3 players we selected, Bowry was considered by some a bit of a reach where we took him or at best right on the money as an early Day 3 guy.

Like all players we Draft, the hope is he exceeds expectations. But as a prospect, he is not considered Starting Left Tackle material. He will need to develop and was not Drafted to be Dawkins' replacement. He was Drafted to be Ryan Van Demark's replacement, as an off the bench Swing Tackle. He also will not be in play for the Guard spot this year, as Beane has already said he will be focusing on Offensive Tackle this season.

When the time comes to replace Dawkins, which again won't be this year, he would need to seriously exceed expectations in his Rookie campaign to be considered in the running there.

Likely when that time comes, we'll be making a much larger investment than a Day 3 Pick to protect the Blindside of the NFL's Most Valuable Player.

They probably want flexibility to move on next season if Dawkins has a down season. I think the Bills want him in the fold next season but probably look at the chances of a 32 year old tackle having a down year and think it’s worth the wait to not convert the money

Because they keep going to the Jordan Phillips well also? I feel like every ex-Bill is going to be talked about that way until we have a period of time where the Bills stop bringing guys back who are clearly past it but have familiarity. Hopefully we have started that process but not enough time has passed to know for sure.

So far this offseason the Bills have moved on from longtime Bills defenders Taron Johnson, AJ Epenesa, DaQuan Jones, Cam Lewis, Matt Milano, Shaq Lawson, Taylor Rapp, Dane Jackson, Jordan Phillips, Jordan Poyer, Baylen Spector, and Tre White.

Even if they bring back 2 of them (which they haven't yet), that means there are still 10 that they've moved on from.

Rhetorical question (please no one answer this!), do you think these guys are McDermott guys or Beane guys?
