I pounded the numbers using Spotrac and @Kirby Jackson is right.

Here is the math.

Current cap space 12.75 - subtract 2.15 for spots 52 & 53 (Andressen and Vansumeren) - 4 for the PS.  That leaves 6.6.

Spotrac has the draft picks at 12.1 mill, but now you have to dump 10 current players in the top 51 whose jobs the draft picks are “taking.”  I have those 10 guys as Shavers and Strong to IR, and Wisnowsky, SVPG, Mathias, Logue, Broecker, Hamlin, Solomon & Buchele being cut/waived.  These 10 contract save a net 9.80 (contract amount less dead cap cost).  The net cap hit of the draftees is only 2.3 mill.

6.6 - 2.3 leaves 4.3 to spend. I round down to 4+ mill to reflect other dead cap hits for guys signed for camp. Use a void year and we could easily spend $5 on a new contract or two.

No Kirby was NOT right, since he said we have $5M to spend AFTER he accounted for $4M for in season moves. And that is just not true.

I agree with your math, but that's exactly what I said. We have about $4M left, and you need $3M for in season moves. That leaves us with $1M free cap before the season starts.

If we spend those $4M, then we need to restructure someone to get the season going (for example, Shavers and Strong on IR will consume about $1M immediately).

Yeah, I 100% get what you are saying, I do not see it playing out that way... (however I fully accept you may be 100% correct) now it may not happen for a bit like after June 1st but I do think you will see one or more of those guys back...  now to your point it could be like a Poyer, Davis, Phillips thing last year when they start on the PS... but I feel like that would happen in the middle or after Camp...  I feel like we will make a move with 1 or more prior to that...  I just dont think Beane can help himself.. like my wife in a drug store LOL...

I agree if you are gonna get Cooks you want him here at a minimum for Camp.

Yeah bud, the point is sign them now, and if they only make the PS, ok as they’ll have a paycheck.  But seeing as his many injuries weve faced in the last, they most likely would be active and would push the active guys.

On defense, Thompson would push Williams and Bernard to be better.  On offense, Palmer, Coleman, and Bell could be mentored, and also push to be their best.  That’s mostly for Coleman.  I still don’t believe in him as he’s had more than enough time to establish himself, but maybe a vet who does it better forces him to be better himself.

I haven't heard any one mention what the deal will be moneywise for Burton when he makes headlines in camp. Still rookie deal? Moore, Shakir, Bell and Burton with Palmer and Keon doing whatever.

You keep forgetting about $4M you need for PS and almost $2M you need for 52nd/53rd player. If Sportac is correct we have about $3.5M effective cap space, which is just a little more than we usually need for basic in season moves.

Almost agree with this, but you still didn't account for the last two players on 53 man roster. That's $1.8M more, so it leaves us with about $0.6M for any FA. That's good for one $2.5M FA if you push $1M to the next year.

So we are either signing really cheap vets or one more restructure will be necessary.

I would think the Bills will probably do a conversion on Groot if there's a player they like, if your crunched numbers are good then if the Bills do the conversion on Groot they will have about 3.6 million to really "play with" to grab a vet or two out on the market. I would assume the Bills are probably in the market for a vet LB/WR/CB/DT/EDGE but probably are only going to meaningfully add 1-2 players in either of those positions.

I can't really see the Bills going with 3-4 of those positions. I think LB is the position most likely where they will add a vet I just think that's the most paper thin position on the roster. Maybe they nab a vet WR or one of those other positions but I think the Bills probably aren't looking at major vet free agents here just a small tweak or two.

I am with you I would prefer to know who we are working with so signing them sooner than later makes sense... I do however get the feeling money is a thing here and we might have to wait it out and see who gets signed post 6/1 l think we did that with Milano years back and eventually he didnt get a deal and signed back with us... As for Coleman... I am Missouri... Show me... consistently... until then I have very little optimism for him.  As for a Vet for him... I kinda felt like that was a role Cooks would have played, but obviously remains to be seen what happens there...

I would guess either Shaq Thompson or Tre White.

I was reading on how the door was open for Tre, not sure if that is actual smoke or candor... either way he probably should have made the list.

I think that's a misleading way of reading into what was said.

The last time Beane was asked about him was before the Draft. And he basically just said that like with a lot of different Free Agents out there, they aren't closing the door on it - but they're focused on the Draft and they'll revisit the market after they see how things stand with the roster after the Draft.

Then we traded back into Round 2 to Draft our Boundary CB3 - on a team that generally only carries 3 Boundary's on the 53.

What does that say to you, in conjunction with what he said?

Not sure what it says, I read the pre draft Beane article, the one I was referencing was a speculative article from a reporter that I would put very little stock in...  again back to the smoke and candor part... who knows... bottom line you have Benford, Alford who looks to be a nickle replacement and a second year guy who played very little and has shown an injury propensity and a rookie who people thought we reached for... bringing in a vet CB to me isnt out of the question, especially if there are injuries... so regardless of who is saying or writing what... I still see Beane looking at brining in another vet at that position... is it white? who knows...

No thanks.

I cannot imagine them going in that direction again. He was a very good pick up for the team three seasons ago when he was already on the downside of his career. They saw that last year and didn’t re-sign him. Why would they go back to the well?

Because they keep going to the Jordan Phillips well also? I feel like every ex-Bill is going to be talked about that way until we have a period of time where the Bills stop bringing guys back who are clearly past it but have familiarity. Hopefully we have started that process but not enough time has passed to know for sure.

Honestly, if we are going that way, I go for Tre White for less money.

I think it’s been set a number of times on the board, but Tre is a man corner. With Leonhard‘s defense, I think we’re going to see way more press coverage and that is so out of White’s comfort zone. He should still be employed as an NFL cornerback, but I don’t think he’s a fit in Buffalo next season.

Fair observation... I do think we need another vet corner... with literally Benford being our only legit vet corner... To much unknown about Max and Ide not sure if Strong is even gonna play...
