No reason why they can't. That team is deep and really good. Best team in hockey since December 9th, it's not some fluke or short sample, it's more than half a season at this point.

As someone who likes the Sabres but does not follow them religiously like I do the Bills, what happened? How did they go from worst to first?

For those who don’t know, Braylon is a reporter for WBEN.

I don’t know about anybody else, but I’m drinking the Kool-Aid.

Oh Yeah Surprise GIF

To be fair, those 6 times you've been drunk and had questionable thoughts about Josh Allen don't technically count as an affair

Does it count if I wasn’t drunk?

C'mon, where the fun in that? That's like saying I'll believe in Jesus if he walks across my pool to hand me a Mai Tai.

Jesus the waiter can't walk on water

I was thinking about that prediction just yesterday. If the Sabres actually win the cup this year, can you imagine how insane next year‘s Bills season will be?

No matter what happens game in and game out everyone will say, “relax they’re definitely winning the Lombardi. It’s all gonna work out in the end.”

If psychics are real, why aren’t they all filthy f*cking rich?

This reporter forgot to tell us about the other calls he gets from the same dude. The Sabres should have won 7 Cups and the Bills 8 Lombardis by now.

I’ve been called much worse. In fact, that’s almost flattering!

We all were a wee bit psycho during the very lean years for the Bills.

Essentially they made a decision to stop wasting their talent and looking for others to blame, and decided they would play the system being asked of them and bust their ass at the little details.

At the same time Kevyn Adams got fired, and while he built the team, the players had little confidence he was going to get them to where they needed to go.

Essentially once he got fired and replaced by a "real GM" in Jarmo Kekalainen and he brought in highly respected Assistant GMs in Flynn and Bergevin, the players knew the Sabres actually were done accepting being a laughingstock and were ready to be a real NHL team.

@Big Turk covers it succinctly above. I think also goaltending can't be overlooked in the genesis of this turnaround. Having two dudes (and at times a third) who could really hold it down back there as the team developed its 200 foot grind game made a TON of difference. The Sabres were kept in a bunch of games where they took some time to find their grownup game.

They definitely have gotten better goaltending

Lyon starting hot and hot a cold spell end of the season

UPL started sleep and finished hot

Neither are probably top five or seven goalies in the NHL.. but both probably played like top 12 guys in the world throughout the season

Lyon rn is vocal which is huge in the playoff.. you hear him yelling to the defenseman clearing the middle of the ice telling them where he wants... You can't discount another coach on the ice who is directing players

I would guess that there have been and are more predictions about the Bills and Sabres and league championships.  Sooner or later, one is bound to be correct.  Maybe this is the one.  I'm not great at cornhole, but once in a while I still get the beanbag in the hole.
