Is this rage bait

Nope I became a Penguins fan in 1992 when I was 7. Everyone was playing a Defensive trap style of hockey at the time which lead to a lot of low scoring hockey.

I was drawn to the Penguins because they played an open ice style and had top line goal scorers in Mario, Jagr etc.

It’s really the same reason I became an FSU football fan. FSU around that time was one of the few programs that was running a spread no huddle system in college football with exciting players like Charlie Ward. It was more exciting for a kid than watching a team run the wishbone

I am not an NHL fan, but I’ve been watching this series and rooting for the Sabres. Great win tonight to advance, Buffalo.. Keep going. You’ve even got me watching hockey!

I am really happy for you guys.  Not a big NHL guy, but for the sake of my sister whos worked for the Sabres for 25 years, my dad who is a staunch Sabres fan since the beginning, and everyone else in my family, this is great.  Now that I’ve lived in Tampa for 30 years, but was born and raised in Buffalo, I’m hopeful the Lightning pull it off, and face the Sabres.

Finally, I’d want to see the Sabres finish it in four games.  Lightning fans can be annoying.  Just don’t tell my middle son as he’s a Lightning nut.

My official "I know sweet FA about ice hockey" take on the game:

1. Alex Lyon is a heck of a goalkeeper.

2. David Pasternak's face looks like he spends his summers working at a dodgy nuclear facility.

That's all I got.

Go Buffalo!!

Sounds legit. Same reason so many that grew up in the Michael Jordan era are Bulls fans. Lots of people growing up in the 70s became Cowboy or Steeler fans.

When starting out in a sports fandom, it's easier to get into winning teams with larger than life type players.

Yeah, kids tend to root for dominant stacked teams.  That penguins team was ridiculous.

Regarding the bolded.  I felt the opposite.  I LOVED the Huskers of the 80’s  they said “we’re going to run the ball 60 times a game and there ain’t a dam thing you can do about it except bend over”.  Imposing their will 24/7.

i stopped rooting for them when they hired Callahan and they went west coast offense.  I felt that hire ruined everything they had built over the decades.  They still haven’t recovered, although Rhule may have them headed in a better direction

This edition of the Sabres is just incredible to watch, and the run they've been on since December is remarkable. Their forechecking, team speed, and defense corps is legit. Hoping for it to continue as long as possible. There's a ton of other teams fans jumping on the bandwagon, including almost all Canadians except maybe Habs fans. Buffalo definitely deserves this.

I never paid attention to hockey - but because they ended the drought, and it was Boston, I got into it.

Now, I'll watch the Sabres all the time. Totally into it & into hockey.  It's wild how one series can do that to you.
