Beane is an awesome gm

I said in another thread this is the most excited I've been before a season since 2021 and 1990

What i found interesting is Beane on day 2 said no matter what happens here we are gonna get a pass rusher. Which means Howell or zion young was also probably #2 on their board

One of my favorite aspects of Brandon Beane is he doesn't give a hot damn what the fan base and influencers think.  He's in such a different world than the rest of us.  When he says he didn't build a Brandon Board or a Joe Brady board....that they (as a group) built a Buffalo Bills board---that tells me everything I need to know.

Beane: "Jalen, how're you doing, buddy?"

Kilgore: "I'm doing good. How about you?"

Beane: "Not too bad. We're surprised you're still here but we're excited to get you, buddy."

Kilgore: "I'm so glad. You just made the best pick of the draft I promise you. Coach."

Com'on Jalen. Beane is NOT the coach.

Those calls, especially where you can actually feel the emotion of the guy on the other end of the phone, are always awesome. I hope, like IGB said at the end, that this group is the one that helps get us over the hump.

A few of my thoughts after watching.

1. I know he owns the team, but please don't let Terry call the new guys. The less talk Terry does the better. Maybe tell him the draft war room is in Florida next year.

2. I really liked the way IGB presents himself. Seems like a good kid.

3. Beane thinks a lot of the day 2 picks will get a jersey on Sundays. Would be really nice.

4. This is NOT a swipe at McDermott. But Joe Brady comes across as authentic. I think he will relate much better to the younger guys than Sean did. He's still young enough to relate.

5. Like his actual players picked or not, Brandon Beane does a magnificent job reading the board moving up and down and getting players they want. He does a great job stacking picks in rounds that have some gems.

6. Am I alone thinking that Kilgore may end up the best pick of this draft?

6. Another thought about Joe Brady. It was interesting to see and hear his positive reaction to the early defensive players selected. His view of getting defense is what helps the offense is refreshing. Viewing defense as a tool to get the ball back for the offense seems like it should be common sense, but it's not in many cases.

7. I find it funny that every time Beane is shown making a trade, he always tells the other GM to "go ahead and call it in". Both in trades they propose and ones that are proposed to them. It's a pretty good power move IMO. Like hey dude, you work for me.

They do such a good job on these. The draft one is always my favorite.

Yeah it’s the best video they put together each year imo.

The more I listen to IGB the more I think he’s going to be a helluva player for us.  I’m a huge fan of IGB the person.  Have a feeling I’m going to love the player equally

Good post!

I agree with all points except 7.

I think for a trade to be completed both GMs have to call it in.
And both calls have to state the same details.
So I don’t think it’s a power move.

These are awesome, but I’m sure we’re not seeing 1/10th of what is actually going on.  Did they have a guy they would’ve traded up for in the 1st.  who would they have taken at 26, 28 or 31? I know they can’t divulge that but would be awesome to see the raw footage of the whole draft.

This seems like an important detail to focus on when he is probably on the most important phone call of his life so far. Now I hate this pick.

We drafted a bunch of criers. Geez.

It will be interesting to see how many of the 10 draftees make the team.  Interesting to learn that Pride was a top 30 visit.  Obviously they really believe in the kid.  Not surprised they liked and drafted Kilgore.  USC always played tough defense.   Orr was a top 30 visit, and I think IGB was as well.  Kilgore and Bell had combine visits.  That’s at 5 picks with direct interviews with the Bills prior to draft.

Those criers are the people you want .. they have done the extra things to get them to this point. They are the ones that want to win as much as you do.

The biggest thing I took from that was they wanted an Edge Rusher and CB in with their first two picks.

They had 3 players on their board at that spot obviously with Parker being the top one. I think it’s fair to assume the other two were also Edge Rushers or Cornerbacks based on his comment . So who fits there outside of Parker?

They wanted a long press corner so I’m not sure Hood was on there. Maybe Brandon Cisse from South Carolina? Unlikely I’d think?

I think Zion Young has to be one of the other two. Gabe Jacas makes sense but he went way later. Were they about to take a shot on R Mason Thomas or Cashius Howell? I’d say also unlikely so I’m most curious about that

I think we can throw BPA out the window.  Beane was clearly drafting for need.  Even  before day two Beane said they were taking an Edge and corner with their two day 2 picks.  It helps explain why IGB was a perceived reach.  That said James Cook was a perceived reach in the 2nd rd.  I’ll take Beane’s judgement on this one.

Also those pre draft interviews and work outs clearly play a huge role with how Beane sets up his draft board.
