McDermott would never

He’s a worse version of Keon off the field but a better version on it

if by chance he puts it together he has more than enough skill to be on the 53

I mean, there is literally 0 risk here.  He either shows up, proves that he has matured and can play, or he doesn't show up, does something stupid, and is cut immediately.

Look, I am all for a redemption story here because the kid is talented.  But I'm not gonna lie.....I don't expect it to work out.  HOWEVER, whether it does or doesn't, I like that the organization seems to be open minded about taking a swing on some character concern guys with talent.  Keep taking them because you never know when one may work out.

imagine we’ll know fairly quickly how it’s going. He would be signed and brought to training camp.  If by some chance it works out, perhaps we move Palmer

Zero expectations but it would be cool if he suddenly decided to pull his life together.

Yes for a lot of reasons. If he does he would also be good to have on the PS

And if he was going to the Chief's camp, we would be roasting them: "Allegedly" broke into a home, choked his girlfriend, hit her, broke her phone--twice, pushed her down a set of stairs, hit a rival fan after a game, and was evicted because he didn't pay his rent and trashed the property.

Yeah, sounds like a great guy. I guess he deserves the opportunity to rehab his life and reputation. But if he moves into your neighborhood, be sure your doors are locked.

I did a ton of work looking into Burton in his Draft because on the field I saw him as a legit borderline 1st Rd prospect... I even watched all those on the field videos after the Tennesse game to see what that mess was all about...

Not good...

The kid has been nuts for a while... So I knew the Bills would not touch him...

This is interesting in that...I get that folks are going to think that no way could this happen under McD...but with Burton's past I don't think there's any way this could happen regardless unless someone close to the Bills organization is vowing for him turning things around off the field... He's literally been that unreliable and disruptive, just in his general poor attitude alone.

Real interesting... I have zero expectation, but I absolutely liked the tape from his final year at Alabama... I kind of loved it... He has serious upside on the field.

before the 2024 draft:

“9. Jermaine Burton –  I don’t know if he’s off of a lot teams boards due to character issues but the dude is a very good WR. You can see his anger when he plays during the play, making the play/catch but the problem is it keeps going after the play is over. If he can channel it all to just during the play then watch out because dude attacks the football. Very quick and twitchy. He pushes off too often and doesn’t need to because he gets good separation naturally. He plays faster than his 4.45 40 time on the deep routes. I really like him as a vertical threat and if he can develop more of a route tree and clean up whatever character issues he has then he could be a steal in this draft.”

if nothing else, they can make an example of him in front of some other borderline guys

I don't see this guy as a no risk proposition. In fact I see him as a big risk. Why? Because he’s talented. He has a mini camp invite because he’s talented. If he gets to attend camp its because he is talented. If he earns a roster spot it’s because he is talented.

Thing is with guys like him it’s usually only a matter of time before they f’up again. The last thing you want is for it to happen after you have made the investment and managed your roster such that he’s an important piece in your WR room.

I’m all for his rehabilitation. I like to see people succeed. Just sayin he is not a risk I would be willing to take. Feel the same way about Pickens, whose talent is awesome. He is an even bigger risk because he is about to be paid.
