Dafan Posted April 26 Posted April 26 I'm not upset about the Bills picks. Outside of the top 10-12, it didn't seem like a deep draft. But I do have to say I recognize multiple players names that the Bills grabbed compared to other teams. Overall, I'm not too upset about this draft given what we went into it with. 4 Quote
Sojourner Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Seems like we used the draft to focus on depth and insurance for potential future positional turnover. Not in love with the draft but don’t hate it either. That’s all down to personal preference. Sometimes most of the players fans hope their team draft don’t in fact work out. With that said, I think there’s a few teams that have a great chance to dramatically improve from where they were prior to the draft. The Browns, Raiders and (unfortunately) the Jets are headed in the right direction. Titans grabbed a couple of my fav’ players in the draft, that will be one team I’ll watch to see how they improve. Quietly it’s not far off from one of the better ones. Steelers and Ravens also had decent drafts too imo. Circling back to our draft I hope these guys come to fruition. The Jets going into next year have another surplus of high value draft picks. We saw New England turn it around in 2 years by getting the right draft choices and it ended up with them in the Super Bowl. Hopefully they don’t do the same. Actually a bit concerned as Omar Cooper was growing into one of my fav’ WRs of this draft, Kenyon Sadiq could turn out to be special and David Bailey is a potential animal. 2 1 1 Quote

Green Lightning Posted April 26 Posted April 26 It's clear Beane thinks the DTs we have are just fine and all of our edge players should be clones of Bradley Chubb. He always drafts power rushers and undersized DTs and wonders why we can't get a QB to the ground or stop the run. At least we know now who was calling the shots these past 6 years. Our top 3 picks are back ups, a luxury for a SB roster. But we don't have one and still don't. I hope I am wrong and these picks are hits. Right now I fear a repeat of Epenesa, Bashem and Elam. 1 3 7 Quote
Wizard Posted April 26 Posted April 26 (edited) A great GM improves both the bottom and the top of the roster and consistently adds/replenishes the needs of a team through the draft. I give the Bills and Beane a "C" for this draft at first look. I felt that LB and DT were their two most pressing needs to improve their defense front 7 especially in the run game. Though I like Orr as a mid-round pick, I see some rotational pieces but not a high impact player chosen in the first two days. The depth of the roster has improved, but I am not sure if the starting D has improved. Because of that, I believe Beane did an average job in this draft. He improved the roster but with no significant additions to the Bills playoff Achilles heal...defense! Edited April 26 by Wizard 1 2 Quote

The Jets had the advantage of multiple early picks. Three picks in the first, hard not to do well. But outside of that round, with exception of maybe Ponds, nothing that notable. And again, they still dont have a QB. I'm not sold on Geno at all. His best year with Seattle he still has 11 picks to 30 Tds. Getting 2 good WR's (yes I know 1 is a te), isn't going to do much if they dont have a QB. 2 Quote

Of course it’s easier but that is their own doing. They moved on from some guys to accumulate premium picks and keep their roster cap friendly going forward. If the roster can get experience they can go all in next year on a QB as they have 3 first rounders again. Heck, Klubnik could turn out to be something. We’ve seen a few 4th rounders turn into decent QBs over recent years: Kirk Cousins and Dak Prescott. On paper after this draft it appears they’ve done a decent job of reshaping the roster and keeping their cap space in tact for 2027. That team has to turn it around at some point. 15 years since they were relevant, 11 since their last winning year. I’m not saying they’re going to be a pillar of excellence, just pining my concern about them being in a good position to turn it around. Football and the playoffs is first and foremost all about the division. Do New England take a step backward? I would say yea but I don’t think it’s as drastic as some people believe/hope for. They’ll still be competing for the division I’m sure. Going forward do the Jets go in line with the Patriots recent 180°? I hope not… with last years success for the Cheats, the clock is ticking faster on them getting one for Josh. If the Jets follow suit? 😕 1 Quote
ddaryl Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Talk to me after we see who makes the roster. We need young players to take over and really cannot complain here given the reality of this draft class, our transition on defense, and the fact we used some draft capital to bring in DJ Moore, which I feel is apart of final draft grade 2 1 1 Quote

I'm not sure it's a bad draft but I only heard about 1 of the players he got the thing that bothered me more than anything is the talent he passed on that was there at the Bills pick and he decided to trade back . You need to get really good players & he passed on some of the best in this draft . He passed on CJ Allen, Omar Cooper, & some others that were looked at at being some of the best in this draft . More is sometimes not always better, I hope they know something about the guys they got that we don't but just looking a it for what it is right now I'm not real excited . But please prove me wrong !!! 1 Quote
gjv Posted April 26 Posted April 26 I would say, judging by the evaluations of professional draftee evaluators, the Bills had a very good draft. Most grades I've seen gave the Bills an A with a couple B's and B+ mixed in. Let's hope this Beanes best draft up until now. GO BILLS!!! 1 Quote
MPL Posted April 26 Posted April 26 The Jets could actually be 2-3 years away from ending their playoff drought if they can nail the QB pick next year and properly develop him. Big IF there. 1 Quote

billsfan89 Posted April 26 Posted April 26 I’m Ok With critiquing the draft if you don’t like the players or even the positions that great that’s what this board is for. What drives me nuts is this Criticism that the Bills only drafted depth? Most drafts are for short term depth outside of the first two rounds and early round 3 ranges. Once you get past pick 75ish teams are exclusively looking to fill depth needs, development needs for holes 1-2 years down the line, or for niche positions like K/P/FB. The Bills had one pick in the range where they could land a prospect where you could pencil in as a possible starter (pick 26) they traded down so well that they ended up getting a pick towards the back end of round 2. With those two picks the Bills hit on short and longer term needs. Now I would have gone differently on both of those picks but I’m also not gonna say that the team getting depth and youth at two critical spots is somehow bad. The Bills needed an EDGE Chubb is older and sports an injury history Groot is playing in a new scheme, the only other proven option off the EDGE was Hoecht a guy coming off a mid season Achilles. Parker gives the team a much better outlook on EDGE the teams second most pressing need 5 Quote

Big IF there. I feel like the Jets issues go beyond talent. The Jets had an absolutely killer 2022 draft. They drafted Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Jermaine Johnson, and Breece Hall. All 4 guys are good players and 2 are still helping the team (Hall and Wilson still on the Jets) and the others were traded for value (Gardner netted them pick 16 and the Colts 1st next year while Johnson got them a big NT from the Titans). And yet in the seasons after that killer draft the Jets have been bad. And it’s not like the Jets have missed on all their picks in 2023-2025. McDonald their 1st in 2023 has had 21.5 sacks in 3 seasons, their 1st round picks in 2024 and 2025 were good too with a pair of good offensive linemen taken. They even hit on picks outside of round 1 with Tippman a center taken in round 2, Brandon Allen and Mason Taylor skill position players taken in rounds 4 and 2 also showing promise. Largely the issue is QB, coaching and organizational disfunction. They have been drafting good to decent most years they even make smart trades now and again (the Jamal Adams trade and the recent trades of Gardner and Williams) but they just consistently lack cohesion behind the scenes and it causes a lot of issues 2 1 Quote

Nothing underscores their inability to recognize and develop talent than their kicking Darnold to the curb in favor of Zach Wilson. 1 Quote
