Virgil Posted April 25 Posted April 25 (edited) Beane came out and said he believes they are done for the day and doesn't anticipate trading back into the 3rd. I come from the mentality that Days 1 and 2 of the draft is for starters and immediate impact players, while Day 3 is for lottery picks that hopefully pan out, or serve as depth. With that, we are through Day 2 and I don't see how we are any better as a team. Granted, we found a way to end up with two picks instead of the one we had. Granted, I should be including Moore in my evaluation, which is the only place I see improvement. But for those happy with the draft so far, please help me see the light. With our first pick, we take an Edge, who is going to be 4th on the Edge depth chart. He may start the season 3rd, if Hoecht isn't ready, but he's going to be behind Groot and Chubb. Not only that, but I'm reading he's more of a power rusher than a speed rusher. Is that not what we keep complaining about with who we already have? Plus, if he is higher than 4th on the depth chart, then that means Beane messed up resigning Groot, or signing Hoect and Chubb. Then, with our second pick, we draft another outside DB. I have not seen anything to indicate that he can play inside or safety, so he immediately falls behind Benford and Hairston. According to Beane's presser, he didn't want to be in another position against the Broncos where depth costs us touchdowns in the playoffs. While that's a good point, how about not having Dane Jackson even on the team in the first place. Yes, depth is important, but we are not in a position to be drafting for depth with our first two picks. And if he starts, then Beane blew the Hairston pick or Benford extension. With both picks, the mistake was either today or last year. And if Beane is really going to bring up the depth concern in the playoffs, we started Cooks in the playoffs! Where's his depth concerns on offense? I just keep thinking about the graph that shows the lack of draft capital spent on offensive players and the Bills being comically bad. We still have question marks at linebacker, NT, and SS (at least after this year for sure). LG is currently a question mark, and RG could be next year. There's also many who believe we need to go all in on giving Josh weapons. When we made our picks, there were day one starters available at S, DT, and LB. So I just don't get it. Help me out here. Give me something to sing about, because this is the worst draft I can remember in a long time and I have zero faith in Beane's ability to turn it around. I also firmly believe that all of the McD drafts were as much on Beane as this one is, because it's the same old crap. Edited April 25 by Virgil 11 5 1 13 1 1 Quote

QB Bills Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Brandon Beane gets pulled over for speeding.. Cop: do you know why I pulled you over? Beane: not sure officer, what did I do? Cop: you were going 90 in a 70 zone Beane: but I drafted Josh Allen 5 15 1 Quote
jahnyc Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Maybe the question really is whether we have drafted players that will be difference makers next season. I think the answer is a clear no. We needed to draft a couple of starters (LB and either a guard, NT or WR). We didn't do that, so now I expect that Beane will sign some very low priced veterans to potentially fill those roles (and already have at guard). 1 2 1 1 Quote

Lost Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Yeah I dunno. I see a lot of other teams getting better. Feels like the bills just keep treading water. 1 Quote
buffblue Posted April 25 Posted April 25 I find myself approaching the same level of dislike for Brandon Beane as I had for Kevyn Adams. It's the same thing every damn year 2 1 3 Quote
Simon Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Your biggest issue is that you think you know more than you actually do. I'm not trying to insult you, but assuming that your opinions are facts is the source of your angst. 8 2 7 4 7 1 Quote
Rew Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Our defense needs to get better. We've moved on from quite few that stuck through the McD years and have drafted to fill continuous gaps. We'll know more in 8-20 months if we have drafted better than with McD's input. 1 1 Quote
H2o Posted April 25 Posted April 25 No. The Jets and Dolphins have gotten better. We have not. Another waste of early picks. 1 2 1 1 1 Quote
NickelCity Posted April 25 Posted April 25 I would have preferred a more obvious path to starter. The positions selected were ones I expected throughout our first 4/5 picks, though Quote
T.E. Posted April 25 Posted April 25 I mean, you gotta give the news guys a chance before you write them off, but simple pattern recognition makes it pretty clear that they are employing the same strategy that hasn't been terrible fruitful in past drafts. 3 1 1 Quote
JohnnyCash Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Have no fear, Beane will find the next Puka Nucua tomorrow. This is assuming they even consider drafting a WR. After all, you can never have enough CB’s, right McD? 3 Quote

Hundreds of Millions of dollars and more draft capital than any other team in the league invested in a defense that just needed to be “below average” to put this team over the top — and the result? We get a defensive line that can’t get a sack and the worst playoff defense in NFL history. 3 1 1 2 3 Quote

Excuse me sir, but do you not realize how many YouTube and twitter video highlights I watched to prep for this draft? But yes, none of us know more than these scouts of GMs, but we do get to witness the results of their choices, and this feels like more of the same for Beane. With that, to my original question, do you believe we are better team after the first three rounds? Honestly.. 3 1 Quote

This really has nothing to do with the players. It's about the position. I'm sure they are great kids and capable of being starters somewhere. But they will only be depth here, barring injuries.
