Ethan in Cleveland Posted April 20 Posted April 20 Beane has drafted four RBs in eight drafts - Singletary, Moss, Cook, Davis. Davis started last year slowly but found a niche returning kickoffs and looked better running the ball late in the season. Ty Johnson's use in run game and pass game went up last year however his YPC and YPR both dropped significantly from 2024. Cook's usage and productivity went up and seemed to tolerate the increase. Would anyone take a RB this year? You think Beane will go more than two drafts without drafting a RB? As for FB, I was vocal about the roster spot and the money spent on Gilliam. DiMarco was a waste of money too in my opinion. I know FBs are present on about half the roster's league wide. Brady lined up Gilliam in the backfield quite a bit last year. Again is that Brady or was that directed by McDermott? Hard to know but the fact they made no attempt to bring Gilliam back may be a sign. Would Anyone draft a FB on day 3 or sign as UDFA? Do you think Beane will do either? 1 Quote
KingBoots8 Posted April 20 Posted April 20 I think the RB room is as solid as one could hope for. Cook as the main event, Ty Johnson as the change of pace, Davis as the 3rd RB/Returner (maybe a situational FB?), and Frank Gore Jr on the PS. I would bring in a FB in as a UDFA and try to earn a spot. 4 3 Quote
BuffaloBillyG Posted April 20 Posted April 20 Nope. The only way I see it feasible, is if the Bills decided to cut Ty Johnson as a cap move. Then I'd give Gore or a late day 3 pick fight it out. Quote
NoSaint Posted April 20 Posted April 20 (edited) I think someone as a deep pick would be totally reasonable most teams have their guys so even a drafted guy in rounds 6/7 are only so risky to practice squad for a year and I wouldn’t hate getting a “priority udfa” type of guy a year in the system before making decisions with Davis or Ty we aren’t likely getting a game changer at a major position but we could get a could rotational piece at RB Edited April 20 by NoSaint 1 Quote
GunnerBill Posted April 20 Posted April 20 Nope. There are some FB options as possible UDFAs and they will sign a UDFA running back to compete in camp Quote

(Disclaimer: I am not pounding the table for a RB in draft, nor a specific prospect, Im simply "open" to it) It depends on (1) how the board falls, and (2) how they feel internally about Ray-Day. As a reminder, its unfair to judge Ray's carries - roughly - first 8 games or so (at least). He got literally almost NO real carries. It was like 2-3 tops/game, and they came in garbage time ONLY, where anybody who's watched more than a year of football, knew it was going to be a run play killing the clock. No RB's can get in a flow in that amount of time, at least they should've given him like every 4th drive or something like that. This is not to say i see a future all-pro, just that we dont know, and its kind of a mystery... As far as #1 - the earliest I'd consider taking one is the 4th, and obv if he's sticking out as BPA by far. The NFL has 3+ years now of the run game returning to favor... each year trending higher than the last. Its no secret we like to run the ball, and bully with our OL, you want to keep that going! Cook should see less carries this year, if he'd gotten banged up it would've been trouble. One RB I have an interest in is Nick Singleton - Penn State. He balled out last year, and operated well in a time share. A physically punishing runner, breaking tackles: -227lbs, made Bruce Feldman's "Freak List" - 4.39 speed -Broke Saquans squat record @ 655lb squat, 435lb bench, clocked at 23.5mph -2024 41recs, 375yards, 5 TD receiving ----He's not the most elusive guy, he'd be the thunder to Cook's lightning. Something I do feel like we've been missing, whether its the draft or FA. https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Nicholas-Singleton-RB-PennState 2 2 1 Quote

We are definitely adding at least a rate rounder or priority UDFA. Those guys make great ST adds too. Quote
KOKBILLS Posted April 20 Posted April 20 I know he's listed as a TE... But I Draft Riley Nowakowski for the Gilliam role at #220 in just about every Mock I do... 1 1 Quote
13 Seconds to Mars Posted April 20 Posted April 20 Yes. Always need STers and role players. CBs and RBs need to be drafted every year as they are the most physically demanded positions. Plus, I want the Bills to finally fulfill the Chan Gailey “water bug” role. Been waiting for a Sproles type RB for years and it’s never happened. Quote
mushypeaches Posted April 20 Posted April 20 It's important to keep in mind that with McDermott no longer calling the shots, plus the departure of Aaron Kromer on the OL, that we are very likely to be throwing the ball a lot more than in the past couple of years. I don't think it skews completely to the other direction as in the Daboll era, but I don't see the 2026 Bills as leading the league in rushing again under Joe Brady as HC Not sure if that really moves the needle on the decision to draft a RB/FB in the late rounds, but I think it's a factor Quote
NewEra Posted April 20 Posted April 20 I haven’t looked into any FB prospects. If there was a potentially top 3 FB available in rd 7, I’d consider it 1 Quote

No one knows if that was McD or Brady. Even the most pass happy people on this board would I think agree a nice balance is best especially in the rain. Quote
Buffalo Ballin Posted April 20 Posted April 20 RBs are injured a lot. They take the most hits. Wouldn't mind taking another RB. Quote
Sojourner Posted April 20 Posted April 20 Yes. Either of the Penn State guys; Allen/Singleton on a day 3. 1 Quote
strive_for_five_guy Posted April 20 Posted April 20 This draft class is horrible, I’d decline all picks Quote

Exactly! He's a converted RB who did everything for the IU National Championship Team. He is listed as a TE, but ran as a lead blocker, and made huge catches as a receiver. The Bills haven't talked with him as far as I know, but he'd be perfect. 1 Quote
