I'm really surprised the deal is so short.  With player contracts only going up, why not try to lock him for longer?  Unless the player wanted a shorter deal and is betting on themselves.

Edges are only slightly behind QBs at the top of the market now and 10M ahead of WRs.  Another reason why drafting edges are so important once you are paying you QB 60m+

The guy is a holy terror... I dont mind the 3year a lot can change in three years... based on salary cap and performance this deal is set up to be extended and the other piece is exactly what you said, maybe he is betting on him but 50mm a year... damn...

I think it was Gil Brandt that said a long time ago... QB is the most important position, if you dont have one then you gotta get one, if you can get him, get a guy to go get the other teams QB, and if you cant get him get a guy to protect the one you got...  I think this is how its playing out.

I remember when Don Mattingly got 2mm and people flipped... heck I remember when OJ got 400k and people called him greedy LOL

That was some of the nicer stuff that’s been said about OJ.

I hope the Texans turn into the Bengals, a team paying top dollar to a few players who then cannot afford to have quality on the rest of the roster. Pay one non-QB that much and you’d better hit on all your draft picks, because you’re going to need some cheaper contributions.

And when Kirby Puckett and Ryne Sandberg got 3M.  🤣

It's so disheartening to see what these guys make when most of us struggle week to week. I risk my life driving my POS car to get to work "leading the future of America". I get it, boohoo right?

You'll probably get some grief but I agree. The scale of the money in sports has gotten to a point that it's turned me off. I've pretty much stopped following anything but the Bills. If/when they win a Superbowl I could see it happen there too.

I'm sick of the rich getting richer while the 99% get squeezed from every angle to make it happen. Increased ticket prices, more TV and streaming services required and those costs increasing too. Networks and streamers seem to feel like the bucket is bottomless. Just more more more ever year. I'm really over it.

Indeed it was and I kinda felt a little  non PC  bringing him up LOL but oh well...

This is an insane contract. Likely paid more guaranteed to keep it shorter. He's a tremendous player, but $50M a year average for a non QB is flat out too much. Might be an indication they plan on trading Stroud or moving on from him once his contract is up and drafting a new one. Can't fit a QB contract when you're paying an EDGE that kind of coin.

Hank Aaron at 600 home runs got a million, and one journalist wrote that he wasn’t worth it.

Wow, now I do not remember this... but absolutely, those were different times...

Moral of the story, if you're really good or better than everyone else at something, you can make a lot of money.

I'm really average to below average at pretty much everything.  Only exception was the Marine Corps, and I was too stupid to quit after 6 plus years.  But I wouldn't of made millions there so.... there's that.
