Sierra Foothills Posted April 17 Posted April 17 From this morning's Pro Football Talk: I guess the gist is that because the draft is being hosted by Pittsburgh, that the players selected to announce the 2nd round picks largely have some association with the city or the state. Of specific interest is that former Western New York high school star Shane Conlan (Frewsburg in Chautauqua County) who went on to star for Penn State University and then was a fixture on the Buffalo Bills Super Bowl teams will be announcing the Bills 2nd round pick... except the Bills don't have a 2nd round pick... at the moment. Also interesting to read the list... check out the player representing the Jacksonville Jaguars. gonzo1105 Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Nothing better than watching a former player get up their , mumble about their past and illegibly make the pick announcement while chiding their former rival team 1 2 1 Quote

Sierra Foothills Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 There are a few former Bills stars who have kept a super low profile since retiring from football. Near the top of the list are Shane Conlan and Aaron Schobel. I'm pleased by this announcement... eager to see if his neck is still in the Takeo Spikes class and generally what old Jughead looks like. Also it's kinda funny that he's been tabbed to announce the 2nd rounder that the Bills don't currently have. What's he gonna do if they don't acquire a 2nd rounder? 2 Quote

He does live in the Pittsburgh area to my knowledge. I told my buddy who knows him to ask if he's going to be the waterboy for the round. 1 Quote
mbowman14 Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Shane Conlan is the reason I'm a Bills fan from central PA. First memory as a kid is the 1987 Fiesta Bowl when PSU shocked Jimmy Johnson's Canes. Damn him, he's caused me a lot of heartbreak. 1 Quote

Probably had a lot to do with the relative brevity of his football career 1 Quote

Buffalo03 Posted April 18 Posted April 18 (edited) Not gonna lie, as much as I dislike Goodell, part of why round 1 is always the best, is because he announces the picks. It just feels like a draft. Once they start letting random people do it, it loses its luster. Granted, it's Day 2 and 3. Day 3 especially, they should just put the pick on the scroller. I don't need to see "John from Australia" on TV making a selection for a team Edited April 18 by Buffalo03 Quote

In previous years they then do the 3rd rounder. 32 minutes ago, Buffalo03 said: Not gonna lie, as much as I dislike Goodell, part of why round 1 is always the best, is because he announces the picks. Like, start the clock and then do your little Lex Luthor cosplay. At least this year there is no Kyle Brandt. Edited April 18 by BuffaloBillyG Quote

I wouldn’t doubt Beane find a way to trade up or down to get in the 2nd rd. Second, I loved Conlan in those days. The only RB I’ve ever seen knock his butt back was the “Nigerian Nightmare”, Christian Okeya. It’s surprising he only managed to land a 6 yr. Career, and only 2 of those years was over 1000 yards. He hammered LBers back in the day when LBers looked like Ray Lewis at 240-245 lbs. and loaded with steroids or GHB. Okoye was an absolute beast of a large RB.
