This was a really fun exercise. I mainly did it to learn about how AI can help the software development process, because managing software teams is my day job. I need to understand AI within software development so I can support my people properly.

You can find the download link to the app here: https://pickswapapp.com/

Also of interest but not in the app might be a total draft capital calculator by team: https://pickswapapp.com/draft-capital.html

And historical player-for-pick values, both at time of trade and where the pick value ended up: https://pickswapapp.com/player-trades.html

You can switch your draft model (jimmy johnson, rich hill, etc) to see the differences in both the web tools above and the app.

Anyway, it's an iPhone app, so sorry if you have Android. This was a learning effort and not a money making one so, I have no plans to port it. I do have a list of improvements / minor bug fixes I want to make, and not sure if I will get to that before this draft. Golf season is starting, for pete's sake! On the list (among other things) are interface improvements, multi-team trades, and most importantly a "Go Bills!" easter egg somewhere.

Please enjoy! And thanks SDS for letting me share.

I'm android and proud, but sounds like a nifty bit of kit so if you get round to an android version I'd definitely be interested.

If I do it will probably be a mobile-friendly web site. Actually probably easier to do than a native android or iphone app. Hmmm.

I'm reading what you wrote here and then looking at your profile pic... and I'm calling BS!

😆

I'm pretty sure you run a firewood business and do some jerkies on the side.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing it.

It's pretty incredible what AI can do for software development. Pretty scary, too.

It is, but you still need to know what you are doing from a planning, UI, and architecture standpoint. AI will make some really stupid decisions if you aren’t on top of your game. Like where do you store and access draft order data? How do you add compensatory picks when they are announced? What about trades that seem to happen daily? Or how do you keep a team’s roster up to date with FA and trades? You don’t want to have to deploy another version of the app every time that stuff changes.

That said, without AI’s help I would have written some really inefficient code, probably made my own set of stupid decisions.

Why not just use Flutter or React Native? It would have made it cross platform using one code. I'm assuming you used Swift in X-Code.

I was wondering the same thing, as well as whether you used Jibberfub or chose to go “old school” with Teenywank?

Yep - Swift in X-Code.

Could have done either, I suppose, but I don’t have an Android device to test, and sims are often goofy. Plus I wanted to use some of the native Apple apis and functions to make life easier. I could certainly have had more control of the ui with flutter. But this was a project for fun and learning. Maybe my next one.

You guys have outed yourselves... but very impressive knowledge nonetheless.

What we can do with AI blows my mind.

Pretty soon, AI will take over TBD and do all the Beane, Pegula, Brady, etc., sucks posts for us, start crazy-idea threads, offer meaningless polls, all in the appropriate order and with the right amount of illogical reasoning, and all we'll have to do is sit back and read the posts and hit the like button.

I think I might have enjoyed band camp, while we’re at it.

Exactly! I actually went to science camp, too. I think I mostly tried to change the science need girls around because that’s all my adolescent mind could focus on.
