Commanders unveil new(ish) Jerseys

Here’s a few images of the new Commanders jerseys, which may look slightly familiar with a few omissions. Thoughts?

It’s almost like they’re trying to not really show it. Maybe that way we’ll like it better? Maybe it’s like our Frostbite Outfits, it’s best if you don’t look directly at them. Or even in that general direction…..

 

Yeah, I’m generally not a fan of uniform tweaking for money all the time. Just one more thing….

Outside of a name change and using the old logo on the helmet, these are a 9/10.

They need an entirely different logo. The “W” just seems lazy and unimaginative. The name “commanders” has so much potential for a cool logo. It seems so hard to believe that this is the best they can come up with.

 

I totally understand the name change though. I don’t get why people are still upset. Imagine a team called the Kansas City Blackskins. That wouldn’t infuriate you?

Well, you have to understand that the name was originally coined by Native Americans. There is a lot of bogus history out there around the name. Whatever, though. That's a discussion for another place. The name was changed and it isn't going to come back.

The Native Americans are the ones who came up with that name and not only that, an Indian Tribe sued the Commanders because of the name change.

"Redskin" is a badge of honor according to the Spokesperson.

It’s iconic … I totally understand the name being offensive, but the logo itself was one of the best in football. I still love the Chicago Blackhawks logo. It was one of my favorites as a kid and still is

Agreed. The Blackhawks logo is one of the best if not the best in the NHL

I wish they’d go back to the redskins.  It was a cool name and great traditional logo.  I’m glad they have the arrow through the W, that’s pretty cool.
 

Contrary to modern belief, Redskin was never a derogatory term either.  The Redskin logo was drawn by a native artist, who loved the name.  Native groups were always involved with the team, and many native groups self-described themselves as “Redmen” when the team was founded; probably only stopping when white people told them it was racist.  Oops I just used a color to describe people (white) I must be racist 😬 

 

See, even today it’s common for people to be referred to by color - white - brown - black.  The new go to phrase is BIPOC ( Black Indigenous People Of Color).  It’s not racist.

I'd wager a name change is coming right after the new stadium is completed.

I’ve lived in the DC area for the past 20 years. People still call them the old name.

I get it, but the younger generations aren’t going to understand that. Times have changed for better or worse.

A big improvement. Anything other than traditional, block-letter numbers looks terrible, and they corrected that.
