boyst Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Good. I remember everyone screaming the success of Allah Cart programming vs entire cable subscriptions. Do we all regret that now? Its 3 times as much with all the subs. 6 1 3 1 Quote

JP51 Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Bottom line is that the NFL will do whatever it wants until someone stops them legally.... they are all about making every dime they can.... It would be nice if they considered the fan and the people that cannot afford to pay... but they dont have to they are a business and will pick whatever model reflects the most revenue and profit, the minute people start walking away and it effects their bottom line then they will adjust the model... problem is that isnt happening... the only thing that can prevent this imo is the government waiving the anti trust law around like they did when the owners werent showing home games unless it was a sell out by thursday at 1pm if we all remember that.... and saying fix this or we wanna have a conversation about that exemption... not sure what comes of this but I have been waiting for it... wondered how long it was gonna take... 1 Quote

colin Posted April 9 Posted April 9 the nfl is a regulated trust, and making it hard and expensive for fans to watch their team might be seen as anti consumer, given the special privilege the nfl enjoys. 1 Quote
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted April 9 Posted April 9 So 30 years ago or so everyone could watch 2 games on one network and one game on the other network every week for free. Monday night games may have still been on ABC back then? Now everyone can still watch 2 games on one network and one game on the other network every week for free. The difference now is the league gives you many other options to watch more games for a price, but you still get basically the same for free. Maybe the only difference is the Monday night games have moved to ESPN, but ABC still carried close to half the games. Plus you get the Sunday night game for free which didn't have years ago. So basically it sounds like the DOJ wants the NFL to give away more than they ever have for free. Sounds like one of these things where politicians bring up some alleged injustice to make people happy, but while you can fault the NFL for alot, hard to see what the issue is here. 5 Quote

The problem is it isn’t the 70s anymore, and the fanbases that used to be primarily the home markets, and now countrywide. People expect to be able to watch whatever game that interests them. The ability to do that is out there, but it is costly and can require people to sign up for more than just paying for an individual game. The NFL created this monster and the government is just letting the league know they are skating on thin ice. (Ice joke removed) Edited April 9 by WotAGuy 1 1 Quote

The issue is most fans just want to watch their favorite team. A fan used to get every bills (or other teams) games on network tv. now a days, a bills fan might need 3-4-5 streaming services because there’s a Thursday night game on Amazon, a Sunday night game on peacock, and Christmas game on fubo or whatever. It’s not that fans are getting more, they’re getting less. 2 Quote

I’m pretty sure that once the DOJ fixes this, it will be more inconvenient and more expensive to watch the Bills. 1 Quote

agilen Posted April 10 Posted April 10 What’s crazy about this…. 20 years ago it was more expensive (in _real_ dollars) to watch every NFL game, because DirecTV had a monopoly and forced you into 24 month contracts for the privilege of buying Sunday Ticket. yes, it’s super annoying to buy different subscriptions and you need to be on the ball for canceling each month - but today’s landscape is far cheaper (and far better video quality) than 20 years ago. 1 Quote

Absolutely DOJ should be on it. They should've been on the playoff game at Denver. That was flat out criminal. Quote

It’s not that fans are getting more, they’re getting less. If you live in Buffalo you can watch every game as it's on local TV, all you need is an antenna. So it's the NFL's fault that people moved all over the country and need to be able to watch whatever game they want for a very low cost?? They still can if they buy ST for under $500. So the only games they'd need some other service for is Thursday night and the 1 or 2 games a year on Peacock. If the fan moved from Buffalo then that's the price they need to pay, or if they don't want to pay, move back to Buffalo. Most of these people have these services for many things beyond just watching Bills games and if they did buy the service just for the Bills that's pretty dumb on their part. They could always just buy a subscription for the one month the game is on that service. If they moved from Buffalo back in the 70's they wouldn't have even had an option to watch the Bills games. I feel really bad for these entitled people. Think there's plenty of more important things for the DOJ to be worrying about than this! 2 Quote
