Mike Vrabel calls characterization of photos with reporter "laughable" - NBC Sports

Quote

“These photos show a completely innocent interaction and any suggestion otherwise is laughable,” Vrabel told the Post. “This doesn’t deserve any further response.”

Russini gave the Post a statement, too: “The photos don’t represent the group of six people who were hanging out during the day. Like most journalists in the NFL, reporters interact with sources away from stadiums and other venues.”

Remember years ago when she was getting the first scoop on everything, and then the wife of the Redskins' GM tweeted that it was because she was sleeping with people for info, including her husband?

how do you think Schefter gets his scoops?

Look, truth be told, I loved Vrabes as a player going back to his Ohio state days, and I desperately wanted him as the Bills coach last year. And quite frankly, I couldn’t care less if he’s banging Russini or not. But to act like the photos arent damning is idiotic. If my wife saw pics of me with some little cutie, holding hands, hugging, hanging out at a pool together, she would be furious. And rightfully so. For him to downplay this like it’s just a big nothing burger is silly. Whether or not anything nefarious was going on, I have no idea, but the photos and narrative are not a good look. And he shouldn’t be so dismissive.

This is the second time. Nobody cares. Integrity is a dead concept.

On social media, maybe. And there are a few high-level folks in our country working to use spin and distraction instead.

But it's not dead. It always comes back.

And while I haven't seen anything but those two or three photos, that hug looks awkward as hell, not a romantic one. I don't see anything especially damning there. It'd depend heavily on context.

This is why I don't put too much weight on character outside of arrests and suspensions.. We truly don't know any of these guys on a personal level..

Vrabel’s character is pretty easy to get a grasp of, he has issues.

It looks like they were dancing, awkwardly. But who knows. He seems like a doosh. Never shakes the other coaches hand after a game etc. Bugs the crap outta me.

Just one guys opinion, but that’s one reason I don’t buy or wear jerseys. I stick to generic Bills gear. I don’t know those people.

What’s he going to say - “Opps! You got me! We be bangin’”. Just deny and hope it goes away until you deal with the fallout privately. At least that how I do it whenever I get caught cheating on my wife. She’s a wonderful, loving woman by the way. Best wife ever.

I’m sure some will make this about gender, but I wonder how this will affect her career as a reporter.

This is one of the areas I think gender does come into play, however. For DECADES females in the sports journalism world have had to fight rumors a stereotypes about how they get ahead in the career field. They aren't taken seriously. They are often talked about for their looks rather than their worth as a journalist. Women are often put down for their takes. So, when something like this happens that reinforces the misogynist viewpoints of women in sports, it not only affects her career, but puts into jeopardy the integrity of other female reporters.

Notice how no one is pondering Vrabel's future or how this may affect his value or worth as an NFL coach. Read some of the comments on Twitter. He's largely getting a slap on the back while people say vile and degrading things about her. Yeah, something like this, sadly in 2026, gender still comes to the forefront.
