The problem with McDermott is that he had an over reliance on McLoyalty which manifested itself in him bringing back lots of McVeterans for second tours with the team.

While these players understood the McSystem, they often times seemed to come up McShort in McCrucial late season and playoff games.

As far as I'm concerned, good McRiddance.

Whomever we go with better be able to play, because they’re probably going to get a fair amount of snaps (when Benford and/or Hairston inevitably get injured.) Alford will see some, but the last CB on our depth chart will likely play a few games.

Hook him up a 2 year deal- he's still got some snaps left.   Don't care about the dpi meltdown- he's just a part of 'this' team.

- with absolutely nothing to back it up other than a feel on his play, I'd bet a decent chunk he's going to have an upswing for the next year or 2.

My guess is that after the draft they'll be talking to him, and hopefully they can work something out.

Not sure about the upswing, but he played well last year till the late injury.

Yes toughness. tre was NEVER tough dude - it's not his game, never was. Not saying he was bad, but we need tough/mean and fast dudes. Like Max - he is tough and fast.

Nah, he absolutely was tough. Not Ray Lewis or anything but he did a damn good job coming in to stop the run and tackling generally. Big WRs couldn't just bully Tre, he was tough enough to handle whatever they pulled on him.

We don't need mean guys, especially, as long as they do the job. Fast would be good, though.

You said it perfect. WAS.... (Even that is to be debated).

He was good last year. I wouldn't mind having him back. But I also wouldn't mind drafting a corner in round 3 or later and developing him. Either way.

I’m thinking that, although it would never happen, Diggs as wr #3 would be more beneficial, lol

No thank you.

I wouldn't hate it, the depth at corner is fairly sparse. The Starting boundary corners are Benford and Hairston while Alford is the Nickle. That's a quality starting trio but there's hardly anything there behind them. You have Dorian Strong who looked solid in his extremely limited exposure but is also coming off of an extremely serious injury. The rest of the corners on the current roster are mostly undrafted guys.

I suspect the Bills will be in the market to bring in a vet corner and drafting one in the mid-rounds. Likely the top 6 corners going into the season will be Benford/Hairston/Alford as the starters and a vet similar to the caliber of Tre plus Strong and a mid-round rookie.

This whole offseason has been weird.  You bring in a new coaching staff, change the D philosophy, but outside of Chubb, Beane really hasn’t changed the players especially upfront on defense.  To make it worse most of the players have zero pro experience in a 3-4 because they are McD era draft picks.

Are the same guys going to suddenly learn to stop the run because of a new scheme?

We still don’t have a proven NT or a proven LB to start next to Bernard.

I agree in general with the getting younger on defense (which is why no Poyer, White, Jones or Thompson), but seriously what’s the plan?  Hope the 2026 draftees step in and start? Hope Sanders or Walker or castoff Mathias can play nose? Hope Dorian Williams is starter material and that Buffalo Joe is adequate depth behind Williams and Bernard? Last I looked Hope is not a plan.

Sorry for venting, but this D transition doesn’t look to be really happening except in coach speak.

This 110%.  I honestly feel and I sincerly hope I am wrong but the D is gonna take a step or two back for at least the first half of the season.....hopefully by then the light will be turning on for a few players but all in all my expectations are very low for the D this season.  There is going to be some transition time involved even tho it appears Leonhard is an excellent teacher.

So for me - I am starting with very low expecations and hoping (not a plan that hope thing as was pointed out already) I will be pleasently surprised.  The D is still McCorner's (LOVE this name) D.  We have to see who will transisiton to the Leonhard D.

I won't miss it either.

But that doesn't change the fact that he was Drafted here and went on to have tremendous success bc his skills were tailor made for McDermott and his Defense. He isn't fast enough to be a Man defender, especially at 31 years old (32 in the Playoffs).

There's a very good chance that the reason he hasn't been brought back yet is that Beane and/or Leonhard don't believe he's a good fit for the new scheme.

There is also a good chance he is a post draft sincere consideration.

I feel they have already discussed a scenario or two.

Both have equal value at this point :)

I disagree on the injury history concept- he was shaking all the final rust off as last season went along.  I believe he's the most healthy, mentally and physically, he's been in a few years.  Again, I can't prove that- but it's what I saw.

And hell yeah, I'd take a 31 year old Stud over a 22 yo 4th rounder any day.

Take both :)

Our defense was horrible against the run, a 3 and long was almost automatic for the other team & we never generated a pass rush. Really depends on the schedule how the first half plays out, but I doubt will give up 33 ppg in the playoffs
