Tre White came into the NFL blazing hot. A huge reason the Bills broke the drought IMO.

Toughness? Let’s see you battle back into the NFL after suffering 2 major ACL and Achilles tears. Getting injured has nothing to do with a player being weak.

If I'm not mistaken, when Tre was here in his first stint, did he not at times shadow the other team's best WR? I remember talk of him becoming a "shutdown" corner, a couple of years into his career. Yes, McD ran a heavy cover scheme (playing cover 3 the most), but over his tenure (2017-2025) the Bills did average about 22% man coverage, with it at times going up to 55% in big games (playoffs or vs. certain teams that called for it). 22% is low compared to many other teams, but it isn't like we never ran man vs. man. 

 

Now, age and injuries may have caught up to Tre (I'm not sure), but I wouldn't say playing man is out of his skillset, or that he can only play cover schemes as some are suggesting. I think he was very successful in his first go-around with the Bills in manning up some of the better WRs in the league.

 

I would love to see him back on a one-year deal for depth. In the playoffs last year, he was one of the better defenders on the field...still making plays. Yes, he's getting older, but I don't think he'd suddenly fall off a cliff between January and December.

Love Tre. If this is a more man heavy scheme, I think it may hurt him some. But no doubt he’s still got it. I think we should be looking to get younger, faster, cheaper here. If our scheme is similar to what the Rams were doing, Tre was awful there 
 

Dorian Strong was so good early, his youth and length were fun to watch up to the injury. And that’s a 6th round pick. Fine some young DBs to fill out that depth chart and move on from the retreads and get younger.

I like Tre White, and I think he improved through the season.  I don't know what reason the Bills might have for not re-signing him, but I'm pretty sure it's not just an oversight on the part of the Bills.  They have their reasons, and GunnerBills' theory sounds reasonable.   I'm also pretty sure the Bills are not going to explain themselves.

Yes toughness. tre was NEVER tough dude - it's not his game, never was. Not saying he was bad, but we need tough/mean and fast dudes. Like Max - he is tough and fast.

He's tough as nails don't disrespect him 

 

Him coming back from all those injuries is the definition of toughness.. playing boundary corner at 511 is the definition of toughness

The problem with McDermott is that he had an over reliance on McLoyalty which manifested itself in him bringing back lots of McVeterans for second tours with the team.

 

While these players understood the McSystem, they often times seemed to come up McShort in McCrucial late season and playoff games.

 

As far as I'm concerned, good McRiddance.

And hell yeah, I'd take a 31 year old Stud over a 22 yo 4th rounder any day.

Tre White is nowhere near a stud at this point in his career.  He was solid for us at times last year.  But you really don't want him on the field taking meaningful snaps against any teams top 3 receivers..  

 

It was a nice story him coming back for us last year.  But way too much nostalgia amongst Bills fans.  That doesn't win championships as we have unfortunately seen with the McDermott led Bills, continuously recycling guys well past their prime who had played for us previously.  

 

Sure it would be great to bring back my namesake Bryce Paup.  And maybe Darryl Talley and Bruce too.  But that's not going to win us any games in the 2026 season.

My concern is the half that he runs Man Coverage. Tredavious would be a massive liability in man coverage. And he’s not a superstar in zone coverage either. Time to move on.
