Right now, he looks to be part of a long line of late-round o-linemen drafted by the Bills this century who can't cut it at the NFL level: Marcus Sullivan, Mike Pucillo, Dylan McFarland, Ben Sobieski, Justin Geisinger, Terrance Pennington, Brad Butler, Demetress Bell, Ed Wang, Chris Hairston, Mark Asper, Zebrie Sanders, Seantrel Henderson, Cyril Richardson, Tommy Doyle, Nick Broeker, and (probably) Chase Lundt. We'll see about Tylan Grable, and the one late-round success is a guy they let go: Wyatt Teller. Anyway, my assumption is that he has no trade value and will be out of the league in a couple of years. For his sake, I hope I'm wrong. Man that list is like a horror movie. 1 2 Quote

What leads you to think that? Cushenberry has started every game he's ever played in the NFL (80 games, 80 starts) and is still only 28. SVPG to date hasn't even been able to supplant Alec Anderson (who's natural position isn't even Center) as the first guy up when McGovern needs to come out. Now they've re-signed McGovern, re-signed Anderson, brought in a veteran starting Center in Cushenberry, and signed another Guard in Corbett who has taken snaps at Center. I believe all of this speaks to how they view SVPG - which is that of a player they don't have faith in. Even if he were to beat out Cusenberry, I still think there's a good chance he's also out the door - with both Corbett and Anderson having Center experience. The feeling I get is that he was Drafted with eyes to this offseason and him stepping in for McGovern, so we would be able to use that money elsewhere. But McGovern exceeded expectations and SVPG didn't develop the way they hoped. The whole reason he was brought here has turned out to not work out. So I don't think he's in their plans anymore. I don't think SVPG is long for this team. It appears to me that he's clearly on the outside looking in. Beane has shown a penchant for turning OL into late round picks and if anyone offers anything for SVPG at the end of camp, I see them taking it. Edited April 1 by BillsFanForever19 2 1 1 Quote

This really nailed the essence of the thread and articulated the situation perfectly. He’s at a crossroads and don’t have any idea where we go from here. 1 Quote

Player for player trade Will give you our mid late round pick who hasn't cracked the lineup for another mid late round guy who hasn't lived up to your expectations Jerry Hughes, Kelvin Shepherd Dangle svgp to a team that is Dearth of center and get a WR , LB who hasn't cracked their full time lineup either 2 Quote

I’d add CB to the list as that may be the thinnest position right now. Take some of that OL depth and find a way to get a contributor at a position without as much depth. 1 Quote

CNYfan Posted April 1 Posted April 1 In the Embedded from the Draft, for the year he was drafted there is a segment where Coach Sean says "Are you going to get Van Pranger?". Bean looks at the board and says "I am going to draft Ray Davis". 2 Quote

I think he'd beat out Cushenberry because the Bills, as most teams favor their draft picks. Cushenberry also is only on a one year contract. VPG still has one more season after this. If it's close to a tie, tie goes to the draft pick. Or VPG could be thrown into some package trade, him, Coleman, etc. for something?? Quote

He was already coming here as depth (or maybe to compete at LG). I can’t imagine he would go somewhere where a roster spot isn’t a certainty. Quote

BuffaloBillyG Posted Tuesday at 06:57 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:57 PM The thing about a guy like SVPG is that the roster spot he's holding is more valuable than he is to the team at the moment. He's a Center only. Yes, he's filled in at G here and there, but he likely wouldn't have long term success at the spot. Arms are way too short. Like some have pointed out, I think the plan was for him to get a year or two to develop and take over the C position starting this year, but that didn't happen. So what to do? Hold on to him. Let's see where we are at injury wise on the OL at cutdown time. If he's needed, then we have him. If not, then either flip him for a late pick or let him go. The roster spot can go to another guy Quote
