Kirby Jackson Posted March 31 Posted March 31 We’re in that part of the offseason that drags until @Virgil starts the mock draft threads. Instead of continuing to hammer on the same couple of topics, this feels like a worthwhile discussion. Entering the offseason I assumed that he may have a shot to be the C in 2026. Since then, the Bills have brought back McGovern & Anderson (who can play there). They signed Corbett (who can play there) and Cushenberry (who has only played there). SVPG is entering year 3 and has 1 year left on his deal after this. Anderson, Corbett and Cushenberry are all on 1 year deals (I think). What should the Bills do with SVPG? It looks like he has an uphill battle to be on the 53. Does he have trade value? Does he beat out Cushenberry? Does he move to G? Do they try to get him to the PS? How should they handle him moving forward? 1 Quote
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Think he would beat out Cushionberry, but sure where he places after that?? 2 1 Quote
Captain Hindsight Posted March 31 Posted March 31 He is destined to become the new "Moss and a 5th" I look forward to the trade proposals 4 1 2 Quote
Dillenger4 Posted March 31 Posted March 31 We keep him. He filled in at G when Torrence was hurt for 1 game and played amazing. You keep your meat on the OL. Depth is 100% important. 5 2 1 Quote

skibum Posted March 31 Posted March 31 He will compete for the open LG spot. If he's smart, he will have realized long ago that this is his only path to a starting role. Hopefully he has been doing his homework on the position and will show us all something in camp. It's just too early to call. 1 Quote
gonzo1105 Posted March 31 Posted March 31 I mean you hold onto him as long as you can seeing if injuries affect things at the center position. If they do maybe you trade Cushenberry or SVPG for peanuts if not looks like SCPG gonna get released this training camp 2 Quote
WotAGuy Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Seems like an IR candidate. Has the guy ever been healthy for most of a season? I have heard of him but hardly seen him play. He’s a mystery! Quote
juno999 Posted March 31 Posted March 31 There’s a lack of overall offensive line talent in the NFL. SVPG may not have a roster spot with the Bills but some team will want him. A guy on his rookie deal with 2 years remaining does have some value. Plus he was a 3 year starter at Georgia. My guess is, barring an injury or 2, Beane will trade him around cutdowns for a late round pick. Quote

So many teams are looking for OL depth. The Bills have it. I wonder if he can be packaged for Tyree Wilson or Kayvon Thibodeaux? Both of them are former top picks (Wilson 7th overall & Thibodeaux 5th overall) that seem like they need a change of scenery. Wilson is now down the depth chart after the Crosby trade blew up and Thibodeaux is in his last year. Those are 2 guys that feel gettable and would be worth the flier. Would SVPG and 165 get it done? 1 Quote

MrEpsYtown Posted March 31 Posted March 31 I’d look to a trade. I think there are two teams with a desperate need at center, the Ravens, the Vikings. Then you have teams who could use an upgrade and I think the best spot for SVPG would be San Francisco. I think he fits that scheme well and the arm length doesn’t really matter as much. They have Jake Brendel who is up and down and will be 34 in September. Then I look at Cleveland and his college OC Todd Monken. It depends on what they plan to do with Elgton Jenkins. One could argue the Titans as well. There are some rumblings the Eagles want to move Jurgens back to guard. Maybe that’s a spot. I think the issue here is that there are some damn good centers in the draft. The other issue is what would another team give up for SVPG. I think it is going to take someone who really likes him and I could see that being Monken in Cleveland. I think he has a chance to make the team if he shows he can play guard or Cushenberry can also play guard and SVPG stays as the primary center backup. But I honestly think that both he and Anderson got pushed out a bit with the new adds. I think Corbett is going to start at LG. If he is healthy, I think it’s a zero percent chance Anderson beats him out. It’s the same story with Cushenberry, he’s just better than SVPG, if he’s healthy he is going to win the job. 7 1 Quote

SoTier Posted March 31 Posted March 31 There is nothing the Bills need "to do with" Van Pran-Granger in 2026. He's a young OLer drafted in the 5th round of the 2024 draft going into his third NFL season. All fifth round draft picks have shortcomings that may or may not be fixed or improved by NFL training programs and/or coaching and experience. Some may become NFL stars from the get-go like Puka Nacua but most of those who become NFL starters take awhile to do so. Keep in mind, though, that most 5th rounders aren't going to ever last in the NFL for more than a few seasons. It's way too early to make a hard decision on a young player drafted on Day 3. 2 Quote
Ethan in Cleveland Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Good topic! I think bringing back McGovern signed SVPG's fate. He may just not be as good as we had hoped. If he was a legitimate starting center candidate then you let McGovern walk to spend those FA dollars on a premier edge rusher. Maybe injuries have taken their tole. Maybe he was a PED guy in college and now he just isn't that good. Maybe he was just a good college player that doesn't have the athletic skill to transition to the pros. Based on the recent FA signings, the chance SVPG is on the final 53 seems very low to me. I know I have joked about this, but the 2027 draft is supposed to be great. I think I would just trade him after the 2026 draft for a pick next year. 1 1 Quote
GASabresIUFan Posted March 31 Posted March 31 SVPG’s dead cap if cut is only 177K. Seems likely if he losses the camp battle for backup C or LG, he’ll be traded or waived. It’s doubtful, unless they get hurt, the Bills brought in vets Cushenberry and Corbett, even one year deals, as camp fodder. Both should make the team, likely making SVPG expendable. Remember they put Anderson at center ahead of SVPG. One scenario that could play out is Corbett wins the LG slot, Anderson becomes a super sub, and the trade Cushenberry instead of SVPG to save cap space. I’m assuming Cushenberry has a larger contract than SVPG. 1 Quote
Pecker Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Considering the resigning of McGovern, Anderson AND the two new FAs with C experience, I can’t imagine them being too high on SVPG. Or Anderson for that matter. Quote

It’s a conversation though because of the numbers. Right now the following guys are ahead of him to make the team: Dawkins, Anderson, McGovern, Torrence, Brown, Grable, Corbett & Cushenberry. Chase Lundt also offers some flexibility. The question isn’t, “Can SVPG become a good NFL player?” The question is, “What should the Buffalo Bills do with SVPG because of the people already in the room?” Quote
MJS Posted March 31 Posted March 31 I don't give him much thought. He will play if there is an injury. The oline has been a strength and looks like it will continue to be. He isn't playing because he isn't one of the 5 best. He is a depth player for us. Quote
