Bison Statues for Front of New Stadium

I also was hoping for massive, life-like bronze bison, and don't like the look of the shiny more abstract designs they went with.   

 

The problem is with me though.  I'm the type of jabroni who doesn't think this is art either.

Ugly.  Everytime the Bills PR puts out a video of these guys suits/architects wearing their hard hats and safety glasses pattig themselves on the back on how amazing everything is, I always feel kind of overwhelmed.

 

1 thing I'm most curious to actually experience is how far these seats are going to feel from the field. I know the narrative is how close they are, but some of the videos I see they look way further set back from the field than the old stadium. The sightlines at the Ralph were amazing. I think these ones will mirror many of the newer builds recently wear the seats are just a lot further away, especially along the sidelines.

I only found out recently how this is considered art.

 

People in higher tax brackets buy this crap at exorbitant prices, claiming it as art. They then donate it to art galleries as a tax write-off. If they buy it and sit on it, then the cost means nothing and they've basically wasted X amount of dollars on a zero sum, however, once they donate it saying they bought it at 3 mil, then that 3 mil is now a write-off they can claim on their taxes.

 

A lot of the "suspect" art out there is nothing more than a scam for the rich.

This has been covered 1,000 times and documented. Literally every seat in the new building is closer to the field than The Ralph.

As a graphic designer for over 30 years and a metal sculpture for 5, I think they look great.  NOT the traditional, realistic images that I think alot of folks understandably gravitate towards, but these three bison (family) will be pretty damn big and interestingly lighted.  My strong suspicion is they will look waaaay cooler up close and personal, than any pre renderings can capture.  Looks like a cool innovative approach to me!

 

Cybertruck-ed-ness aside. I think if they didn't have laser eyes and the red strip they would be much more paletable.

I don't mind the cyborg-ish aspect. Infact some sort of steam punk rendition could have been pretty cool. 

I think the red stripes and laser eyes push this from "rendition" to "cyber truck"

Kinda the opposite to the bolded. The new stadium has a much steeper incline as you move up the rows, so the seats are much closer to the field than at the old, spread out stadium.

I rather like the steampunk aesthetic. This isn't it, but it's possible the revisions you suggest would tilt in that better direction. The thing about steampunk is it has to blend the Victorian with the technological. It should evoke the past and the future in a hybrid of the organic and the mechanical that is whimsical, but not merely robotic.

Overall, I'm disappointed in the design.

 

They look pretty cool at night when everything is lit-up, and they basically resemble a giant Bills logo.

But most games are going to be during the day, and I think realistic animals would have looked better in the end.

Yes, if you watch the video from the team, its clear that only five minutes of thought and design went into this.

Going to go out on a limb here and assume they will be lit the other 360 some-odd nights of the year.

That's not true at all. What they said is the seats will be closer than other new stadiums that have been built. I can tell you for sure the corner end zone seats and sideline seats at the old stadium are much closer to the field of play than they are at this new one.

If they had done three massive, majestic, life-like bison in classic bronze, no one would have been on here lamenting that what they really wanted was shiny, angular,  abstract bison that look like a Tesla truck.  Everyone would have been happy. 

 

I understand art is by nature subjective, but OBD also had to know that half the fan base wouldn't like these.  I just don't understand what drives people to make these unforced errors.  Create something that everyone likes instead of stirring the pot.
