I suppose they’re a good match to a modern stadium … I would have preferred traditional Bison in conjunction with a Lucas Oil Stadium vibe incorporating natural brick surfaces to fit Buffalo’s rust belt industrial heritage.  Sadly, they didn’t include my thoughts in the planning process 😂

Not if you believe in brand reinforcement.  Again, to each his own, but the “charge” stripe is a key element of the logo and brand.  Nobody will see a random photo of these statues and not understand it’s the Bills.

To me, it’s like Superman’s cape.

Anyway, who cares…in our world today too many people don’t want to have their minds changed.  Initial reactions become entrenched truths.

I think it is close to parodic, but then I tend to think Warhol and his soup cans is a clever con and not art. Commerce blurs the line on art. (There's a good essay by Walter Benjamin on that.) Interpretation is a function of a holistic synthesis of prior learning, experience, and tradition. Just as everyone has a metaphysics, even if naively and uncritically absorbed by the zeitgeist, everyone has an aesthetic sensibility. Initial reactions are quick judgments that derive from temperament and historical formation. They are entrenched because not really just the expression of a single moment.

I've written five novels. They are structurally complex, and even the simplest one has non-linear narrative that perplexes "ordinary joes." I understand the frustration of a creator who has to anticipate negative reaction based on conventional aptitudes. My surmise is that eventually folks will come to have affection for the installation, regardless of whether they find them ugly or not, as they will become identified with memories of place and games.

Why is it that when the goal is to try and appeal to the many that tradition seems to suffer.

Because things must evolve?  Ok.  Then are we in store for an evolved logo?    A family of metal bison logo.   A herd of contemporary looking cyborg bison?

I get that it’s art.  But does it represent the brand of the charging Buffalo Bills?    I almost said reflective of….but clearly that metal structure is bound to reflect something.

Not a fan but who cares about what happens outside the dang stadium.   The stuff inside better be TRADITIONAL old school smash mouth football where wins flow like the opinions on this site.

Go Bills!

Could the sinks from the Men’s rooms of the stadium be repurposed to give us some sense of connection to these ugly looking things? I know I’d be inclined to look at them more favorably if I knew deep down they paid their dues.

He doesn’t. But whatever. He’s on a mission against this stadium.

Do people understand this is a football stadium? We aren’t going to a dinner party. They took the idea of bison, combined it with the team logo, and created a cool, modern concept. Lots of things would/could have been cool…and this is one of them.

Most TBDers are still wearing cargo shorts and starter jackets from the last super bowl run. 5% of Buffalonians who were alive in 1995 have updated their hair styles since, including the women. And now they're all art critics?

Unfortunately, very true.  The other truism about art (and most other things), is you can NOT please everybody.

In this case, a modern interpretation for the buffalo, goes hand in hand with a modern stadium design.  But many folks will always hate anything modern (non-traditional).  It is what it is.

You sound like the kind of guy who would buy a pixel monkey NFT for 24 million only to have it lose 99% of its value in 4 years.

Interesting; I did not realize bison were traditionally bronze.

First caller on WGR this morning talking about the size of the nutsack on the Buffalo sculptures. At least SOMEONE is concerned with the proper details!

Every time you cup the balls of the bison, Mr. Brightside will play on the speakers in the trees nearby; it'll be a game day experience like no other!
