It’s pretty clear that the “insiders” are only getting their contract info from agents under a quid-pro-quo arrangement that the insider will credit the agent in the text/tweet.  And of course, the way in which the insider posts the news disingenuously represents the maximum vs. “real” value of the deal (so the agent looks better).

Not blaming anyone or complaining…just making an observation that you can’t accept these reports at face value.  The Kelce “announcement” is a perfect example.

This is how "insiders" have always worked.  And it really doesn't matter how they describe the deal when they "break" the story---the actual details are reported everywhere soon after.

So I don't understand the criticism here.

What was wrong with the Kelce "announcement"?

Announcing a 3-year deal for oodles of $$$, when anyone with half a brain knows it’s basically a one-year contract, and adding “deal negotiated by xxx”…is just silly is all.  I guess there’s nothing “wrong” with it, I just rolled my eyes.

Are you just now noticing this? This is how it has worked for years.

I’ve just recently noticed all of the “deal negotiated by XXX” stuff added on to the tweets.  Maybe I wasn’t paying attention before and it has always been there.  The added focus on who the agent is has been noticeable (to me).

The only insiders are Adam Schefter and Ian Rappaport.

The rest are team and agent mouthpieces

Schefter and Rap are the biggest examples! Schefter especially is an agent shill.

I think guys like Field Yates are more of an insider than Schefty.

I’ve learned that I should always wait for details before passing judgement on any contract. Some awful looking ones wound up not being all that bad. Agents are always looking to add clients and any advertising they get for negotiating splashy looking contracts helps. Plus it puts their name out there.

mike florio of pro football talk, probably out of professional jealousy, has been calling out the insider/agent farce for years

for what, enough time, say 10 minutes,  to post on twitter before all the media has the info except maybe exact contract details, which in some cases takes days before the team submits to league office

I actually kind of prefer Tom Pelissaro

I think Dianna Russini is the last true "insider".

Every NFL contract is announced on the basis of its full length. It isn't a one-year contract - it's a 3 year contract. We all know he will only play one year on it, but if they'd said "Travis Kelce signs a 1-year contract" that would have been untrue.

If this is true - then I retract my earlier point. But that wasn't my understanding.
